The radiator cap seal may be damaged. Get a new one for $6.
You may have a tiny leak in the cooling system, which will not allow the radiator to suck coolant back in during cool down. If you don't find one, BHG comes to mind. |
That sound right...try the cap first.

i got a new cap like 3 weeks a go me and my dad juust put in a can of block seal we will see if that will work

Replace that rubber hose that goes from the cap area to the overflow bottle and put hose clamps on it. I had a leak there. And make sure the overflow bottle lid is on good. Any air leak in the coolant system above the bottle will let air in instead of overflow coolant when your car cools off. And dont fill the radiator all the way to the top, Leave about 1/2 - 3/4 inches at the top. If you fill it all the way up its of course going to pump all that out when its warm. Its not supposed to be full to the max.

ISPHIUS...says above...
And dont fill the radiator all the way to the top, Leave about 1/2 - 3/4 inches at the top. If you fill it all the way up its of course going to pump all that out when its warm. Its not supposed to be full to the max. ........................... This is incorrect. Our cars, like most others, was designed to be completely full of coolant. The overflow bottle is there to catch, and save, any coolant that flows over the cap pressure, 13lbs. The car may NOT send coolant to the bottle, as mine does not, unless it gets hot from extreme conditions, such as racing, mtn roads, A/C on and temps well over 100* in slow city driving, etc. (BHG's can do it quickly). And if not idled for a coulpe of minutes before shutdown after doing some of the afore mentioned extremes, it will send some to the bottle upon engine shutdown. If coolant does flow into the bottle, and if the system is properly functioning (everything is correct), the coolant will get sucked back into the radiator when the engine cools down for a couple of hrs. This is why the system is always "full". |
well mines woks good except the water wont go back to the raditor it stayes in the tank i think i have leaking head gasket se we put in a cand of block seal to thseal it all up i have block sealed some others cars before when they we leaking this sohuld fix it i hope

Are you having any water boil over to the bottle regularly?? That is a sign.
The gasket usually leaks near #6 cylinder. When it fires, it pushes a tiny amount of pressurizes combustion gas into the coolant, which then get too much pressure, and blows water to the bottle. This is why If it is a BHG, block seal will NOT work on our cars. |
y wont block seal work on our cars i dont understand y not
|
Because its crap lol. And thats for like a hole or crack in a metal part. It wont fix a leaking headgasket. And I didnt know aobut the full radiator thing, I thought it was supposed to be at least under the hole for the overflow. You learn something new everyday!

Why not on a head gasket.
Like ^ he said. The stop leak will work (sometimes) for the water pump, radiator, thermostat gasket, heater core, etc.
That is because the system get under pressure pretty quickly, and that 10-12lbs of pressure will force the sealant to fill the tiny leaks by plugging the hole. But a leak at the head gasket into a combustion chamber does the opposite. The super high pressure made when the cylinder fires will force gasses INTO the coolant, causing it to build up pressure way over 13lbs (cap) and push coolant into the bottle. Mine was very tiny for a month or so, and would suck coolant back into the engine during cool down. Eventually it stopped sucking it back in, as the leak / hole got bigger. That allowed air to be sucked back into the cooling system from the cylinder, thus if you check the radiator in the morning, it would need topping up, and the bottle will be full. BUT....stop leak can work on a head gasket that is leaking coolant outside, and down the side of the block. been there done that on several cars (but not supras, cause thats not where they leak). AND...it can work if the leak is into an oil passage, and getting coolant imto the engine oil. They sure sign of this is ...more oil on the dipstick than you should have, and a brown 'milky' look to it, as it will mix with the oil. |
ok
ok well if i dosent work do you no of anything i can put in the car to stop the head gaset from leakin i just need it to run good for about 3 months till i can buy a new motor

Nothing, aside from changing it. Once its out of place you have to pull the head off and replace it.
