Default Someone with stock auto turbo

Anyone with a factory stock turbo/auto, Does your car totally suck balls off the line till it starts to make boost at like 3k rpms and like 25 mph? I get beat by like...5 speed 1990 golf GLs off the line, And it sucks. Even if i pass them going like 75 5 secs later, But I dont think its supposed to be like that. Ah wth im just gona swap it to a 5 speed anyways...

car is heavy off the line
you really wont get a good jump with an auto
(unless you launch the car)

and the turbo takes a while to spool
but a few upgrades, will help the car a lot

Im just trying to determine if something is wrong with my car, I know about the upgrades/weight and what not. I think my trans or torque converter is shot.

Default Yea same.

Launched my very slightly modified automatic turbo supra just today actually. Beutiful LSD slip/sliding start left tracks for about 4 meters, then she took off. About 2.5k rpm to launch like that. The LSD screetching bit was freakin' awesome but when it gripped the road and drove it felt dang fast but just a very little bit lacking. Makes loads of power above 3k and more than makes up for the first half of first gear ... but until its gets to the power band its a bit sleepy. That hurt to say.

So I bought this old Honda bike, an NSR250. Bit of a street racer, I guess. I'm told they're fast.

Delivering it home with a friend driving the Supra for the first time. I drop gears and make a scream from the twin pipes flowing down this pony's flanks and it takes off like it's tail's on fire.

I look back when the Honda gets to its tap-out and the Supra's only two lengths behind. No one I've let ride my bike has told me its slow, they've all loved the thing. That car is a good thing indeed.

Yeah see, my car is messed up. Thats what i figured itd be like, Most automatic cars with bigger motors usually launch pretty hard then fall off. But i figured the supra would fall off then get into the turbo...It just takes off REAL slow and then gets into the turbo. And what mods does yours have?

Valve angles changed, ported unpolished head, ugly arse $39 pod filter, lexus afm - neither ugly nor cheap - , good 215 tread on sweet 17" rims ... standard entry-level. Just the head gasket repair ( reason the head was worked ) makes a world of differance after you get the head set up nicely and the leaks fixed. I had it done well, not just planed off so I could slap it back on. Hope you know a good, friendly mechanic.

Even stamping on the throttle from its 600rpm idle makes my car do a nice takeoff, but yea it's an auto. In a manual you'd launch at a fast idle or more to make it look any better than an auto so there's nothing wrong with it.

It's not good on an auto tranny, but you can push the brake in, Rev the car to like 2 grand, then when you're ready to go, floor it and release the brake at the same time. Or get a converter. Turbo's are less off the line than the N/A's due to the lower compression ratio and the boost not really kicking in to assist till 3k+ or so. Just what I've noticed.
