Supra is home!
Well 2 plane tickets, and 1000 miles later, I've got my 89 supra in my driveway! I'll have pics up tomorrow after I give her a bath.
|
here's some pics. I got the windows tinted after the pics so will upload more tomorrow with the tinted windows!

wow great looking car. What are the plans?
|
Well I got the windows tinted.
It has the original factory radio in it, that's gonna go and a kenwood 2din cd player will go in its place. Small amp and small sub, replace the stock speakers with infinity's. I don't need it loud, but when the tops off I wanna hear it and hear it clearly. 17" or 18" wheels are in its future, no larger. Eibach springs and Tokico Blue struts. Strut tower bars front and rear, thicker sway bars. Single piece drive shaft, lightweight. When the timing belt gets changed in about 20,000 miles I'll replace the main pully with one of the unorthodox ones or similar lightweight ones. Lightweight flywheel. MHG and head shaved. Head rebuilt. Maybe camgears, not sure if I'll actually need it since I'm going to keep it N/A but it's something I'm thinking on. Less restrictive exhaust, 3" most likely with highflow cats, both of em, to keep it legal. Saw some aftermarket headers on ebay I might pick up too for N/A. Cold air intake. If I do the bottom end, lightweight rods and pistons, .020 bore over. Maybe send the crank in for some custom work. Larger injectors. Body wise, for now it's staying stock, it looks great to me stock. Later I'll get either a stock 1 piece or stock 3 piece wing off a turbo. If I do a body kit, I was looking at the kaminari kit. Keeps most of the original look that I like. Thats about it that I can think of. |
Damn!! Nice clean car. Now I see why you went so far for it :)
You have a pm |
Don't buy a lightwieght crank pully, the stock one is dampened to absorb vibrations in the engine. A non dampend pulley could cause engine damage.

Ok here's some tint pics, I haven't gotten the "dots" on the top of the hatch or side traingle windows blacked out yet, was told to wait 1 week for the tint to cure before doing this.
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/8165/tinted003hb8.jpg http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/1208/tinted002nu0.jpg http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/4417/tinted001yz7.jpg I got it tinted at a place in Vancouver, WA. called Solar Eclipse, was 150+tax and 30 for "nofault" protection. 13% HP Gray was the tint used. Can't roll down the windows yet, they told me 24 hours, but I think I'll wait 48 to be safe. And I can't wash em for a week... damn dirty windows... kwnate - you said don't to the crank pulley and I can understand why after what you said, what about flywheel? Is there anything else I can do to lighten the mass of the rotating parts that I didn't mention that won't harm the engine? |
Oh yeah, I'll post some pics of the interior and stuff when I can roll the windows down/take the top off.
On a side note, when I flew down I brought my 6mm hex wrench to take the top off in case it didn't come with the stock wrench. Opened the glove box, had the stock wrench, with plastic caps, in the original toyota bag. Original owners manual + original supplemental owners manual and supplemental toyota manual! Jack bag in the bag was original toyota bag and the jack didn't even look used! Pretty sure I'm the 2nd owner besides the dealership. |
nice car. the tint makes it look so much better, but arent those side windows a little illegal?
|
Light wieght flywheel and an aluminum driveshaft would be good upgrades. Make sure you get a 3 piece wing too ;)
|
Yeah a 3 piece wing is in its future hopefully! :D
As for the tint... maaaayyybeee... :naughty: |

http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...010864/c-10114 3pc. wing the tint depends on what state you live in.... i was gonna get my windows tinted but had to spend the money and more on a replacement ipod instead... |
what kind of gains do you get from a flywheel and driveshaft? any ideas? i was thinking of getting just another 7mge for cheap, and swapping.. and doing other things to increase power. not sure yet.
|
No power gains from a lightwieght flywheel and Driveshaft. Lightens your rotating mass, revs climb faster and you'll increase the hp that actually makes it to the ground but no increase in crank hp.
Do people really buy stuff from Jcwhitney? Buy a used stock wing from another member, doesn't have to be me. Just make sure you get one made by toyota. |
^^^ what he said. To gain HP, you need to "unrestrict" the airflow in and out of the engine, cold air intake = denser air, more O2 to help burn the gas. I've heard the stock intake manifold is good for 350-400 hp quoted from toyota engineers so I don't think I need to replace that, port match probably tho. Less restrictive exhaust manifold, pipe and cats will help as well. Then there's the expensive stuff, like the port match of anything the head touches, intake, cylinders, exhaust, and polish, shaving the head, ARP stud kit, MHG, overbore .020 or .040, increase compression to around 10 to 1... run GOOD gas..

yea, i should have said how much more hp would get to the ground. it would just use the power it has more effincently. my friend has an acura integra with a cold air intake, muffler, and a light weight fly wheel.. its pretty quick, not a whole lot slower than my supra. i was thinking of dropping in another 7mge, keep the n/a tranny, get header and full 3" exhaust? get an adapter and run a k&n filter, aluminum drive shaft, light weight flywheel, take off my AC.. it doesnt work anyways. i think it would be fairly quick for an N/A? or is it worth it? i can buy another 7mge for $350 and drop it in, or go spend $2500+ for an engine swap for a 1jz.. its a hard choice.

Nice lookin car man love the tinted window. In Michigan its 200 plus tax and its illegal to do the sides past top 1/4 of the window. but that doesn't bother me i'll do it anyway. also nice plans for the car she's a beaut!
|
I love her more every day I drive her! I think my wife is a bit upset I actually cleaned out a spot in the garage to park it when I wouldn't do it for her car for years!:o
|
So any idea how to black out those dots? Mine arent blacked out and they look ugly as all hell :(. Much better than my old, purple, bubbled tint.. But still looks like a bad tint job.

Murd - did you get those dots blacked out yet on your windows? Lets see some pix? R U happy with how it all turned out?
- Also in Washington State, the police don't really enforce the window tint. They may stop you or give you a "fix-it" non-ticket, but they don't have anything normally to TEST them to write you a ticket. If they give you a ticket without testing them, contest your ticket and you will win. Quote:

I still have your 3 piece wing when you're ready Murd ;)
|
nice car man, keep it up... very clean too...:bigthumb:
|
Had some issues that took the wing money away... Cars up and running again though! Will keep you posted! I'll post some interior pics if I ever get off my lazy ass.
