mysteries
First off, I'm new to the forum, car is a recently purchased 88 turbo automatic, 115k and seems relatively untouched
Now my questions, in the first pic (sort of unclear) there is a white wire connector attached to a tab on the side of the wheel well in the engine bay sort of below the AFM, and it is not connected to anything and I dont know what it should be. Any ideas? Second question, in the second pic is this little connector by the passenger side strut tower, same problem as other one, nowhere to plug it in, no idea what its for, any help please? and finally, the car ran well up until a week ago when I went to start it, now it starts a little hard when cold, idles and shakes like it has a miss and accelerates poorly until boost helps a little, but all the while sounding like it is missin. All coils are putting out spark, no plugs are fouled. Here is what I have checked and am going to check, just curious if I am missing something or if there is a high probability cause. Checked for spark, checked plugs, no engine codes, no black (or any color) smoke from exhaust. Checked condition of most visible wires and integrity of most connections (will check rest tomorrow). And tomorrow starting with ohm check on plug wires, double checking timing (just timed it a month ago), checking coils according to TSRM, checking ignitor via 6P connector (will do 4P when I get a 3 volt battery) and CPS and AFM and TPS according to TSRM. Kind of covering all bases but is anything more likely than anything else? Anything I'm missing? Thanks a lot. |

First thing I'd check is fuel filter. Maybe clogged injectors.

You need to perform (have someone in the know help you) a fuel pressure test, and volume flow test. Injector leak down test.
If the car drives ok, then the filter is not YOUR immediate problem. But a new filter is always a good Idea.

Yes, my n/a did the same exact thing when the injectors were clogged up. I put about a 1/4 cup of laquer thinner in my gas and it cleaned it right up, But that is bad for things inside, Esepcially rubber gaskets, so do it at your own risk. Just get 2 cans of seafoam. Dump 1.5 in the gas and suck the other half can through a vaccum hose. It cleans your motor out quite well.
