planning to buy an mk3.
i am planning to buy a 1986 supra, it wasnt a turbo but the owner dropped a 7m-gte in it. he's still using the n/a tranny. it has 122,000 miles on it, he changed the head gasket, re-torqued it and got a head job. he got the motor from an automatic turbo supra, so i guess the motor isnt really that abused. he's selling it for 2 grand. is that a good deal?

seems like a decent deal,
how the body? when you said a head job im gonna assume its the headgasket? what kind of headgasket did he use? well if he had the head machine, the 2 grand is a bargain cuz if he did you'll jus be paying for the engine |

threw the rods, fried the pistons, blah blah blah and now im saving up for another one with a turbo lol but i guess he had the heads machined then if he says its a headjob that would be a bargain then jus check sum more in the car check the tranny too, it kinda sounds a little suspicious to me cuz if i had that much work done to my car, i wouldnt be selling it unless sumthings wrong |
tranny
the tranny is kinda lose i think thats cuz the n/a tranny cant handle the power of the turbocharged motor. the reason why he's selling it to me is cuz he bought a honda fit and oh he's only selling it to me for two grand bcuz we know each other. but check it out, my mechanic told me that i shouldnt increase the boost to more than 10 lbs so the motor wouldnt blow up.

If I remember right, the N/A and turbo use the same Auto tranny, just different clutch packs are in it. The manuals were the ones that were different.
As for the turbo in the N/A car, I hope he did a correct conversion, ECU and all, check on that too. Here's a link of what should've been done... MAN I'm linking this alot lately... http://4cefed.com/conversion.html |
no, the n/a and the turbo tranny are diffrent
the bellhousing , they might have some similarities but they are diffrent tranny's |
The w58(n/a manual) and r154 (turbo) have the same bolt patterns, But the bellhousing isnt the same on the transmission side. Either trans, w58, r154, or a340, will bolt onto any 7m motor. Its other stuff that is different. Driveshaft, flywheel, etc.
