Default New supra, few questions.

Hey guys its been a few months since ive posted here due to college and bball. But im getting rid of my 90' Supra auto 7mge and getting a 87' 5-speed turbo mk3, and i had a few questions about the turbo...

1. Is there anyway to check the condition of the turbo? If it needs to be rebuilt or replaced?

2. From the 87' supra to the 90' supra can you switch the steering wheels from one to another? I ask this because I like the 90' steering wheel alot better than the 87' T wheel.

3. Even if the turbo is in good condition is there anything i can do to clean it or maintain it?

I just always hear about turbos going out and am a little leary of that...

the 90 steering wheel has an air bag so you would have to disable it or something

I think it's the 91-92 that has the airbag. 89-90 has the "rounded triangle" center for lack of better wording. Compared to the upside-down T of the 86.5-88.

Its a very nitpicky thing i have with the steering wheels... i think the steering wheel catches the eye and really makes the interior look "older." I think the wheel with the airbag, like you guys are saying (90'-92'), looks alot sleeker and more luxorious for lack of a better word and i was just curious... figured it would be a free mod to do since i have both the steering wheels.

And with the turbo questions, my family has had a saab 95 turbo and a jetta TDI and both of those turbos didn't really need any special attention at all... but my friends with the GSX's and other older turbo'd cars i always hear about them having to be started in the winter for a few minutes before being driven, and making sure the oil level is where it should be... etc...

So any tips to making my turbo last aslong as possible would be great! I'm in college and i play basketball so i dont have time for a job and this means i dont have money to pay for repairs every month.

I agree with you on steering wheel looks! However I like the 89-90 wheel, doesn't look so HUGE in the center! And it doesn't look dated like the 86.5-88! But then I'm biased owning a 89..

Oh and if you find out you CAN swap em and they have the same plugs for the cruise, or can be modified for cruise to work, I have 2 friends who are VERY interested in this info!

I saw a pic of a 87 with a 89 wheel in it, so it must be possible, just don't know if any modifying needs to be done.
