question about turboing a N/A supra
i have a 1986.5 supra that is non turbo with a 5 speed manual tranny.
im interested in going turbo. now can i convert the non turbo to turbo by buying exhaust and turbo kits or do i need to do internals to? also can i still use same comp or do i need a new one? |

You need to comp, you'll probably want to do internals too, as the N/A is 9.2/1 compression ratio, and the turbo's are 8.x/1 can't remember as I don't own a turbo, but it's low 8's. Another difference is the turbo block has piston oil squirters and a few other differences. The head is different, intake is slightly different, transmission manual is a W58 on a N/A, and it's a R154 on a turbo, along with all the extra's that go with it.

NA-turbo conversion
i am actually converting my 87 NA to a turbo. the best thing to do is buy a JDM 7m-gte. that is the cheapest, fastest and easiest way. but youre gona need all these stuffs: ecu, air flow meter, intercooler kit, oil cooler, down pipe, accordian hose and harness. the differential, driveshaft and tranny is optional. i suggest that you get a tranny for 7m-gte because you will mess up your NA tranny if you upgrade your turbo. the turbo tranny is called R-154 i believe.

turbo kit
dont drop a turbo kit in your 7m-ge by the way. thats more work right there and the NA motor might blow up in a little bit.

i tend to shy away from jdm engines
its not that they are not good its jus so damn hard to get them run legally idk how hard it is to pass emisions in ur state but it might be cheap to get the jdm engine, but its all the small misc, and knick-knacks that makes the swap cost more than what actually does i'll rather find a usdm 7mgte then use that

i live in SC we dont have inspections down here is there any other problems with a JDM motor besides emmision/inspection issues? does something or items have to be replaced before it will work in a US car?
