7MGTE vs 1JZGTE
well i was looking for a motor on www.osakajdmmotors.com , and found both of these. the 7MGTE was only $100 cheaper, i was a little suprised, because the 1jz has a better reputation, and it being twin turbo. the only reason i'm shying the idea of it is the lack of parts and aftermarket support.
can the parts from a 7mgte be used on a 1jzgtte? ive heard that parts from 2jzgte can be used on it, but i'm pretty sure those are just a tad more common and also, if i were to buy just the engine, would finding a 5-speed tranny for the 1jz be relatively cheap/easy to find? and what else would i have to buy (here's the link to the page..) sorry if this has already been addressed, but i don't have much time to research and all, also the fact that i can get some direct answers from you guys, given my situation is alot more helpful which one would you guys suggest? any info would be appreciated :] |

first things first... the motor is called a 1jzgte not 1jzgtte
things you must also learn engine types/models examples M series engine JZ series engine 1G series engine none of these engine numbers/letters are the same... i.e.. you cannot interchange parts so to answer your question can 7M parts be used on a 1JZ, the answer is no can 2JZ parts be used on a 1JZ... yes your hardest part for the gearbox is finding a jz bellhousing (not sure if you guys get these over there, more than likely do, but you could get a w58 bellhousing from a jza80 non turbo mk4) otherwise you would be searching in japan for an jz series bellhousing for a r154 good luck with your search in my biased opinion i would hope that the 7m would prevail

alright cool, i've been used to nissans, i just recently picked up my supra so i'm a little new to the toyota scene. i think it should be neccesary to put how many turbos are on the car in the engine code, just so when you mention it you know how much heat you're packin :]

Its cheaper and easier to upgrade and rebuild the 7m, And way easier to install. Plus it has more displacement, Which our fat cars need. The only reason id say get a 1jz is if you want a car made of all stock toyota parts that will be faster and last a long time. But if you plan on upgrading stick with the 7m.
