help picking out new struts
i need to replace my rear struts on my car. it has the TEMS suspension and nobody part stores seems to carry a replacement. :( so what have you all used to replace the stock struts that are compatablie with the TEMS system?
i know the dealer can get them for me but not looking to spend $325 each for OEM. when performance after market are usually better. |

Just dont get the 30$ autozone ones. They suck. And they said free installation on shocks, And the guy was trying to tell me the car has struts. I went in there and pointed out that there is an eye on both sides, Which means it has to be a shock. So I got mine installed for free :). Shows that they wont try to rip you off when you know what your talking about. lol.

autozone and advance auto parts say they dont have ones that are compatable with the TEMS suspension. im not looking for the cheapest either just dont wanna spend over 300 each for OEM struts from the dealer cause aftermarket is better then OEM and sometimes cheaper.
|
Pep Boys has the ones that are compatibles. And they carry aftermarkets. So look into those.
|
BTW, im selling kyb GR-2s brand new for 120$ shipped :)
|
Tems is nice, but way too expensive for the average guy. I went with KYB and lowered the car some and it works out pretty nice. If you leave the car the stock height, then it rides very nice. Put some good swaybars on it and it will handle much better but still maintain a relatively smooth ride.

if i remember right.. i didnt hook up my either... hehe.. |
this seems to be the only direct replacement struts for supras with the TEMS suspension that actually uses the TEMS to adjust it.
tokico struts here are the part numbers they seem to run anywhere from $114-$207 each depending on where ya buy them. TEMS adj susp. (MA70)861/2-92 EU3634EU3635if anybody has anything else that they know works as a direct replacement feel free to let me know.from what i hear these dont have a good quality record :( seems i might have to boot the TEMS system and go with some KYB's. wich from what i hear is a nice replacement strut to eliminate the TEMS system all together. |
Yes, I believe those tokicos are the only TEMS comptible shocks around. You can just get upgraded shocks, rip(or gently remove) your tems out, and sell it. Thats what im doing. Who needs anything but firm mode anyway?
|
So for sure the Tokicko Illuminas are the only struts (OEM aside) that work with TEMs? Personally I like TEMs it's a nice feature on the car.
|
yup they are the ONLY ones that are direct replacement that i could find besides the ones ya can get from the dealer wich here are $325 each :(
