problems problems problems

ok ive got a 1987 toyota supra turbo and when i start it it idle's fine but when i go drive it and it warms up the check engine light comes on (its a maf sensor code)and it will rev up and down to 2000 rpm with the gas peddle to the floor . As soon as it hits 2000 rpm in any gear it will do this. ive changed the maf sensor ,wiring harness, ecu ,tps sensor with ones from my other supra, im thinking it may be the egr valve or iac.

PS: it has a greddy blow off valve thats been rerouted to the intake pipe, hardpipe kit, full exhaust, and there is no leaks in the hardpipe kit

PLEASE HELP IM CONFUSED!!!!!!

Isphius 10-06-2006 05:00 AM

Check your resistance on your MAF. But I dont know if that will help. It has to be something bad in there, because when it starts to open it reads incorrectly causing your MAF code. Try yet another one, And make sure your connections are all hooked up well.

suprra_girl 10-06-2006 05:09 AM

^ and you only just mentioned it yesterday but

as in my sig

DO A DIAGNOSTIC FIRST!! ;)
what exact code was it that you got?

mk111boy 10-06-2006 05:28 AM

the code was a 31 isnt that a maf sensor

suprra_girl 10-06-2006 05:40 AM

how long ago did you do the diag check?

can you run one now and see what codes you get?

is there any smoke out the exhaust when it's doing this?
did you verify the other afm was good?
maybe try another one
check your grounds also as the afm is grounded through the engine in a roundabout kinda way

mk111boy 10-06-2006 06:06 AM

i just erased the code and did the diagnose again and its a 31 afm code

yes the other afm came off of my supra that runs great

and is the ground your talking about on the lower intake manifold

yes it does blow black smoke wich means the engine is running to rich right

hellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll p

hello i have a friend that helps me his url is mk111boy.
i am having problems with my supra 87 turbo
it is kinda hard to explain so here it goes
first when i start it it runs vere good for as long as it is not moving just but when i get in and drive it still runs good but after about 5-10 min running it hard when it reaches its full temp i think this is what is causing what ever it is that it is doing i realy dont know than.it will give me a check light and when i push the gas pedle it will only go to 2000 RPMs and than cut with it pushed all the way down and continue to do this until i let go of the throttle .i have re-routet my greddy blow off back into the intake and changed all the vac lines and all the rubber fittings on all the pipes intake & cooler pipe changed FPR /AFM/knock sensor checked fuel preasure and filter all plugs and wires and changed the AFM 3 times thinking that mabe it was bad ?
i realy need help there is no one but the person that is helping me that can tell me what the hell is wrong withe my car
all the shops that are in this wonderfull state that i live in can not tell me what is wrong with my car so any help that i can get this is my last resort than im calling it quits and giving up it has been down fo 8months and still nothing i do has helped.

suprra_girl 10-06-2006 06:40 AM

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 06:45 AM

supra girl

all the hoses that are on the boost side of things are all brand new how could this be a boost leak

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 06:49 AM

2nd

and the black smoke is only when the car gives me code it does not do this when you drive it it will hit stock boost and not hessitate at all the car runs great till it gets hot and than check light comes on and its back to the drawing board for us . i am the one that owns this car and mk111boy is helping me
i know this thing is realy close and it is somthing that has not been looked at so is there any more ideas that you might have please help

suprra_girl 10-06-2006 06:53 AM

a) brand new doesn't matter, you may have put a clamp on crooked

but since this is only when it's hot (by which i assume you mean up to temperature not overheating)

check the tsrm with a voltmeter and go thru the checks for your air flow meter

it is more than likely a worn/broken/shorting wire in your engine harness not in the afm itself if it does it with a good afm also

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 06:55 AM

question

when this happens the smoke is not that bad and why does it only do this when it gets hot it does not do this when the car is cold at all it runs fine great grand
what could this beeeeeeeeeee i realy do not think that it is a boost leak it has got to be somthing else is there any thing else that it could be

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 06:56 AM

q

i also checked over all the wireing and fixed all the cracked wire

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 07:00 AM

q

this car of mine i have had nothing but problems with it
should i call it quits or keep on pumping more money in it it has a new motor and it is in pretty good condition

mk111boy 10-06-2006 07:02 AM

could the greddy bov valve be leaking the boost

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 07:06 AM

this is prob a dumb question what is trsm

suprra_girl 10-06-2006 07:11 AM

the link i posted before

get your multimeter and do the checks it tells you to

tsrm = the online repair manual for the supra

please do the checks before you come back and post as we need to know the results

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 07:13 AM

i have the book on this and it pulls a 31 code

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 07:14 AM

so this tells us that it is the air flow meater and this is not the case this stupis ass car has had this replaced 3 time and still the same results this is kinda odddddd dont ya think

suprra_girl 10-06-2006 07:16 AM

ok sorry to sound harsh but

read the damn link

it tells you to test your ecu and wires to determine where your problem is

no where does it say only your afm is bad

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 07:18 AM

when i done this check the multi meter said that it was ok from what the arc was reading all this has been done and still the same results there is somthing else wrong with my car

suprra_girl 10-06-2006 07:19 AM

then tell me this

where is the ecu located and how many main plugs go into it?

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 07:21 AM

it is inside the car behind the glove box and there is 3-4

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 07:23 AM

i am sorry but i am very frustrated with this car and hope to fix it soon
hope this is the correct answer

suprra_girl 10-06-2006 07:25 AM

try this tsrm more inparticular being that it is for 87 not 90+ like the cygnus website

http://supra.co.nz/87tsrm/EFI/efi44.htm

http://supra.co.nz/87tsrm/EFI/efi98.htm

also post the results here so we can analyse them

p.s try to post all info in one post or edit your posts instead of having heaps of one sentence posts

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 07:26 AM

i have learned a lot about this car in the last 5-6 months and it may not be as much as i should but im new to the turbo thing and well quiet frankly it kinda sucks

suprra_girl 10-06-2006 07:29 AM

it does when you have a little bug like that to find

but the repair manual will narrow it down for you

bigdoggbmx 10-06-2006 07:30 AM

i will try this in the morning and reply back with you .and thanks for all the help

edit: by the way nice build i had a n/a supra that i rolled and i loved that car it never gave me any problems like this one does

Isphius 10-06-2006 01:51 PM

She knows what she is talking about guys :). And the real initials for tsrm is toyota service and repair manual, The real book is pretty expensive. But yeah its on thta cygnus site, and it is solid gold. Its helped me with at least 50 things so far. lol.

bigdoggbmx 10-10-2006 08:16 PM

fixed

the idle air control was the coprate the hole time thanks supra girl and mk111boy you all have helped a lot

bigdoggbmx 10-10-2006 08:18 PM

one other thing

there were shims in my waist gait is this a bad thing to keep in there or should i take them out
one other thing is there any one that would make me a good deal on a air flow meter for my intake

Thanks biggdoggbmx

suprra_girl 10-10-2006 08:46 PM

if you're running up to 10 - 12 ish psi on stock you should be ok, it's only when you start modifying the crap outta your car you need to start with the fueling

great stuff you found the problem :)

i'm sure more of the locals here will tell you where you can get an intake etc
