Putting your car in 1 will not make it any faster off the line than in D. It will just prevent it from shifting. The only time youd need to do this is if your car is modified in some way. The transmission knows what its doing.

no it doesnt...

having it in L (1) is the same thing as first gear in when in D...
except for you shift it when u want when in L, or1 ...which youll probably miss the powerband anyway. so its no better

Yes, lol. 1st gear is 1st gear. shifting it manually is an ego thing.

Supra2NR 10-17-2006 04:33 PM

no, honestly
i can tell which one throws me back harder

Murd 10-17-2006 09:42 PM

Because it throws you back harder doesn't necessarily mean you're going faster in a 1/4 mile. Sometimes shifting at a lower RPM than SCREAMING gets you better times. All depends on where the power is.

Thats called the placebo effect. Get a Gtech pro. and yes, supras make all their power before 5500 rpms, so taking it higher than the auto shifts at isnt making you any faster. Unlike my mr2, which has its peak power at 6400 and redlines at 6800, because it is a 1.8L.
