Draining Tranny fluid
When drainind tranny fluid from the plug on the bottom of the tranny, does that drain it all or just from the pan? If it is just from the pan how can i get it all out?

when you unplug the plug im pretty sure it all drains out. if you want to flush i dont know how. sorry

Also can anyone suggest a way to get off the refill plug off the LSD I have been sitting here with a socket wrench for the last hour and I feel weak cuz I can't get it to budge. Please help!

Use a breaker bar on the socket wrench. Or you can get a torch and heat around the plug so the metal will expand a bit.

Good question I hope you get a result, I have the same problem drained about 2 to 3 litres out, made a big mistake and filled up with TQ Dextron III after a 5 mile run trany started to make a loud buzzing noise. Again drained out 2 to 3 litres and filled up with Dextron II, buzzing noise has gone but need to drain all the fluid out to make sure. The local auto shop recommended TQ Dextron III, totally wrong this is a different fluid used for the latest electronic transmissions. The trany holds 7 litres how you get the rest out I don’t know. |

THe only way possible to get all the tranny fluid out is to co to a shop that flushes them. You can not get all the fluid out by just pulling the plug. THe torque converter is full of fluid. that is were most of it goes. You have to get something done called a T-Tech Trans flush.

yes a t-tech is one of the only ways to get all the fluid out.but first ya gotta look at how many miles are on the tranny.and when it was last serviced.i have the t-tech machine at my shop but i will NEVER flush one out over 150k.
when it gets to that point if its not regulary maintained its wise to just drop the pan and change the filter and clean all the junk out of the bottom and magnet. if ya got more miles then that i would just suggest draining and refilling only whats in the pan. believe it or not but ya can kind of send the tranny in shock and it will fail. :( |
Hmm after hearing the thing about the Dexron I am kinda wondering if putting Trick Shift in my car id a good idea...

With the drain plug out, Start your car up and let it idle a little. Dont change the gear. That will pump any remaining fluid out. And when you fill it up there is a specific way you have to do it, I am not sure. You have to let it idle for a long time though.

you will burn the trany bands up in it if ya run it with out tranny fluid. been there done it on my z24.
