does the system have pressure? if not your gonna need to redo the whole A/C system
 the old stuff was r12 and the new stuff is R134a wich dont mix and r12 is very very very hard to get your hands on since they stopped making it back in the 90's. if ya gotta redo it your gonna need a new compressor evaporator lines and condensor if not even more
