Crankshaft work

Hi everyone, this is my first forum, so bear with me. I am about to rebuild a 7M-GTE and would like to know what Knife edging and Micropolishing is when it comes to cranks. And about how much would something like this cost?

sorry but what is that?

I wouldn't do either unless you're expecting to attain some really high RPMs.

Prices? I dunno.Very dependant on the shop. Make sure you get a reputable shop.

Knife edging is always helpful when it comes to windage in the oil pan. Not to mention the lightening wouldn't hurt either. Micro polishing will help the bearings last longer, but you may as well look for a coating on the bearings and pistons too. Use a synthetic oil, aluminum flywheel and it will be a fast revving engine for really quick shifting.

what is knief edging and mirco polishing?

I don't know about micro polishing, but knife edging, they sharpen the counterweights on the crank to "cut" through the oil more efficiently.

Knife edging and micropolishing ARE always helpfull.

However they are both very expensive around here.

Knife edging is dandy for high RPM and extreme horsepower setups, as I said. Very popular in the 60s and 70s, before they invented "technology." Haha.

I'd put a windage tray in it, that'll be plenty and its normally a lot cheaper.

Also, if you have it knife edged, you're gonna need to have your whole ensamble balanced, thats pistons, rods, clutch, flywheel so on, so forth.

There's a LOT of things you could do to get more benifit then the knife edging. Not that the knife edging wouldn't help, though for the record several sources aren't sure wheather the power is gained from the lightened crank or the knife edging its self.

There's a lot of nifty things you can do to help yourself out without breaking the bank. I'd reccommend a girdle, though that will get costly. And it doesn't increase power whatsoever.

It simple adds to durability.

Well, more than anything else, I am looking for durability at high RPM's and high boost/HP. And by high RPM's I mean about 7000-7500. Not really that high. And by high boost, I mean anywhere from 25psi-35psi. What is a wideage plate/cage?
