Default Techincall questions.. im a supra NOOb

I just bought a supra 2 days ago
its an 89 targa top 7mge
Auto
a few questions... my overdrive light flashes on and off could that be verry bad?...

my speedo doesnt work, my odometer doesnt work.

therses a wierd grinding sound that sounds like a dry bearing in the reare end.. has anyone heard this?

and is there aplace you can get new seals for the targa top and about how much?

there was something else to... ohhyeh, my oil pressure sits pretty low at idle.. like that first bar over 0psi when i drive or rev my motor it goes up fine. what do you thinks causing that?

ALl helps appreciated

The light flashes when the speedo cable broke. Grinding could be a wheel bearing or a bent/dented shock. No idea on the targa seals. The low oil pressure is cause either your pump is starting to go, or your bearings are worn out. Although my n/a was at 0 at times and went up to almost 40 going down the highway, And it ran fine. Check your oil also. And its a good idea just to pull a diagnostic anyways.

I had a medium pitch humming whine from under my car that I thought was a U joint or rear end. I disconnected the driveline at the rear end to isolate them and it turned out to be the rear end. It had a catch in it when turning.
The oil was not low in it either so it failed and I ended up getting a used one from a junk yard and my 0-60 time went down cause the ratio is higher than the old one. It is a LSD though.

today at work i changed my rear differential fluid just for the hell of it, damn when i pulled that plug it had so many metal shavings on it i didnt know what to do with myself. i cleaned the plug off and flushed maybe 5 quarts of GL-5 80w90 through it to clean it up, then filled it. the grinding quieted down but is still there, its more of a hum almost sounds like grinding rotors.. my diff is probably on its way out. do you think that the speedo cable broke? or the sending unit. also i noticed the rear end clunks when you put it into gear (its an auto) how do you run a diagnostic on the tranny?

9 times out of 10 it is the speedo cable rather than the sending unit.

Here is a link to a page that shows how to get diagnostics for the trans.
http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/TechTi...ror_codes.aspx

Here is a link to a wright up on replacing the speedo cable.

I've got no clue about the horn problem though.

Good luck trying to fix an auto tranny yourself unless you're a mechanic. It sounds like you need a diagnostic/full check up done. For the tranny inspection just head down to a local tranny shop and ask them to run a diagnostic on it. They will remove the pan and check everything. I had mine checked and found out mine needed a rebuild. My jaw hit the floor when he told me how much a rebuild would cost. It's just the same price to get a brand new one installed. Around $3000 CDN I was quoted. I'm still driving mine, it revs high and shifts hard when cold...but it doesn't grind or anything strange like that. Yours sounds serious whatever it is.

the error is Defective No1 speed sensor (in combination meter)-severed wire harness or short circuit. code 42.... i just checked it outside. i guess thats not a big deal and as far as the hummmmm goes, thats probably my differential.. tranny seems to shift ok, i heardyou can experience irratic shifting when not having a speedo cable... i really want to figure out the horn thing though.. thats driving me nuts. and i guess ill just have to get a new LSD. anyone know of a company that makes one for our cars besides OBX.. ill check up on a KAAz right now.. they might

but if anyone knows anything on the horn situation let me know
