Picture Of Knock Sensor Locations
Okay I finally found a pic of the knock sensor location. I searched for forever and a day becuase it is the most commonly asked question on any supra forum. Believe it or not this is a pic of our very own SuppraGirl MKIII 7MGTE during its rebuild so props to her for the pic. I edited it to show the locations and which knock sensors belongs to which one.
Remember these details: FOR THE N/A (Naturally Aspirated NON-Turbo) You have 1 Knock Sensor and that is the one near the firewall (the metal wall of the car seperating the engine compartment from the cockpit). Refer To illustration. FOR THE TURBO MODELS You have 2 Knock Sensors. One at the front and the one towards the rear which is the same as the one on the N/A models. Here is the pic. I hope this will end anyones question as to their location. http://i13.tinypic.com/29lmmj9.jpg Obviously I will leave this up to the mods but I think this would be a useful pinning. Hope this helps! Also if you would need to do a rewire check this out: http://www.supras.com/06/techcenter/display.php?QID=69 Thanks to: SupraGirrl for taking the original pic OfnaRcR for the link to the rewire instructions location Everyone who helped me discover the location without the pic and inspired me to find this pic so noone else has to wonder. |
Yeah, that damn knock sensor. I hate that thing. Anyway here is a nice rewire page i found. It took me soo long to find it.

In that rewire link you posted it states that 86.5-88 supras do not need to remove the starter to remove the rear knock sensor. From personal experience I can verify that for an 87 Turbo supra you have to remove the starter to remove the rear knock sensor.
Just wanted to share this knowledge. |
We might want to clarify that the sensor does not detect rod knock tho.
|
ok, thank you very much. another thing learned :) ok, not rod knock, just knock in the cylinders.
|
Can someone please post a pic of the attchment to the knock sensor??
Toyota doesn't even know what that is???? |
Yay I got the KS out, the one behind the starter. I didnt have to take out the sarter on my 89 mk3 turbo.
The knock sensor clip part number is: 82219-89103 I just went to Toyota and gave the number and it came up. If you dont give them this part number their probably going to tell you that you have to buy the whole wiring harness, at least thats what the Toyota dealer told me at first. Im so happy :offwall: :)  No its time for the rewire |
What size socket and /or wrench should be used to take the knock sensors out? I went to do the rewire and found that one of mine is in two pieces. :(
|
what exactly does a knock sensor do? why do turbos have more of them?
|
are both sensors the same part number?
