Engine Break-in
So me and my brother are going to attempt to start up our freshly rebuilt 7mgte this weekend when we get the new turbo. I was just wondering from a couple of you guys that have messed around with these motors, what are your trips on breaking in the motor. I would appreciate all help. Thanks for all the tips.

I think in the old times they had a break in period of about 500 miles ,under 50 MPH and dont over rev. it......I think...or something like that...correct me if im wrong...which i might be.....I am....I think.......lol...

its good to keep it low rpm low speed for about 500 miles. after that dont push too hard til 1000 miles. and its a good idea to change your oil at both those check points to get out anything that might have contaminated it in break in.

generally the break in i have used and has worked well is......
crank car without efi fuse to get oil up to the top end and turbo etc start... check for leaks fix if necessary assuming you have new rings.... you need to vary the rpm and drive (not boost) between 35-60mph as that will bed in the rings the reason for the varied rpm is so the rings and bore doesn't get glazed, so don't sit on 2500rpm all the time... it needs to change ;) rings don't take long to bed in, what takes the time are the bottom end bearings once you've driven 100 miles or so i would drain the oil and change the filter then keep driving for about 500miles start introducing boost... a psi here and there... and gradually increase it once you've hit bout 500 miles drain the oil and change the filter again and by then any problems should have introduced themselves or NOT and you should be sweet! hehe Good Luck with the engine, hope all goes well for you :) |
So me and my brother are going to attempt to start up our freshly rebuilt 7mge this weekend... what I normaly do for cam break in and fresh rebuilds is run at 2000rpm for 20 minutes then change the oil ,is this good procedure for the supra as well? Other than that I do the same break in steps stated by the others.
