TUBRO (yeah i spellit weird) HELP! PLZZZL
Hey I have an 89 turbo and it runs but the turbo doesnt seem to. On the road tho sometimes the stock gauge would jump to 8 psi. It sits on the 0 when driving and -4 when its idling. ALso it puffs out random white smoke and it runs absolutely perfect otherwise!!?? ANy suggestions? Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that sounds like the way a stock turbo is supposed to act. At idle it has negative pressure, no exhaust pushing the turbo. At normal driving to slow acceleration it could be 0-4psi and under full acceleration hit 6-8psi?
|
i understand that but under full accel it says 0 and at normal drivin it will pop up to 8 then downto 0 instantly.
|
Does the car feel like its under boost when you accel or does it feel boggy and slow? could just be a bad gauge.
|
its wayy slower than the stock n/a! lol its bad

Do a diag
http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...read.php?t=323 From what I've read from other posts here my might have a vacuum leak somewhere. If I had a turbo I'd be of more help but I'm just a N/A :dunno: |

might have a leak under heavy boost |
I had already done a diag and it came up a 52 (knock sensor) and that was all.
Also the car is not boosting wat so ever. |
what's to bettin code 34 was there
fix your intake, vacuum or boost leak ;) how much fuel have you been going through? how does it idle? |
The white smoke could also indicate a BHG or shot turbo. lol. And try to borrow a friends boost gauge, one with a vaccum line, or just go buy a cheap one, The stock ones are known to suck.
|
generally that's what vacuum does ;)
|
the car idles like a perfect, dead even @ 700 rpm
Also the car doesnt seem to eat the gas i mean its not amazing but the supra isnt amazing (on gas) anyways. |

is it -4 inhg?
if so you have an intake leak... so your air that you're pulling in is going out before the combustion chambers (tech tip: it's not the compressor on the turbo that makes boost, it's the combusted gasses hitting the turbine that make boost :) ) you should hear it wooshing tho and normally it would raise the idle do a diagnostic and check the codes if you haven't done so already |
well there is no whooshng or psssssshhhhhh or COOCCOOCOO or nothing.
and no power its weak as frick. Do u have any pics of things to check cuz every time i just walk outside, pop the hood , cough , scratch my head, usually whistle , hit the turbo witha wrench look around for cute girls, shut the hood ,cry and come here and type stuff. Also I am looking to buy a 240sx if I cant fix this things ( Sorry ppL I want a working turbo) |
lmao.. nice description haha
are you auto or manual? are you going off the stock boost guage? if you're getting 8psi then the turbo is definitely working, if the turbo wasn't working you wouldn't be able to get that much volume of air you need to check all your intercooler pipes for cracks, splits or hose clamps that may have popped |
Haha, I think mine has a boost leak. Mine would idle at 1500 sometimes and the vaccum would be all the way down. Luckily im replacing it with hardpipes anywyas.
|
You might want to try taking off the bellows that feeds the turbo from the afm and try spinning the impellers. It could be locked up. There could be other problems, but you might want to see if the turbo itself is working first.
Let us know. Russ |
i dont no half the things u guys r sayin because im an uber turbo noob. I need pics ersomethin lol sry. And if i rev the engine in neutral shouldnt i hear the whoosh
|
Are you in new brunskwick NJ? I could come by and look at it, thats like 30 mins from me. And you cant get a factory turbo 240sx, they never sold them to america. Youd have to buy an sr20det and stick it in there. The KA motors suck anyways lol. Those cars have no power.
|
Im standard and i think i figured it out. Huge whole in one of the vaccum lines.
Im not in Nj Im up in NB canada thanks neways tho. |
lol canada new jersey its all the same right? like australia and new zeland??? sorry about the spelling butchering...
