1986.5 supra problems
 

Hello all I am Jason and me and my son bought a supra for father-son time and I have a problem it is droping oil like a sive. Ok I have found the problem seems that there is a leak coming from the oil pan I went a bought a book on the Supra. And followed there instructions. but i have a .25 of a inch that I cant get the oil pan off the transmisson. instead of a engine houst I used a block of wood to lift the engine up, but now I am hitting the firewall with the covers. Any other ideas would be great. Thanks

There have been several others asking about removing the oil pan while it is still in the car and to my knowledge, no one has been successful yet without removing the crossmember. So it appears that pulling the engine is best because all the seals can be replaced or removing the crossmember. Either way, a lot of work, but to me the crossmember removal seems the easiest, relatively speaking of course.

Hope you and your son enjoy the experience of working together on the car. I know that was so very common years ago when you could actually WORK on your cars. Manufacturers and engineers seem to have taken most of that fun out of cars anymore..........sigh.

I have removed the crossmember and I place a block of wood and lift the engine up and still mo clearence. I saw something about move the crank shaft my hand. I have been working on this pan for 3 days now. I am really frustrated. I didnt want to take the engine out lol.

You should be able to pull it off. Just get a breaker bar on the harmonic balancer bolt and have your son turn the crank over slowly while you are fighting with the pan. I know that i have done it both ways, and it is easier i think to just pull the motor. That way if the motor needs anything else, you can do that at the same time. Anyways, hope this helps.

The shape of the crank will catch the oil pan..

sorry for all the questions. Will I need engine houst? Like I said I am only .25 " away the oil pan is hitting the bell housing. I lift it up with a block of wood and a 2 ton jack but affraid of cracking the bell housing. Man why is this so difficult.
