whats your opinion
here is the deal. i have a 86.5 NA supra with 5 speed tranny.its now showing signs of a bad head gasket. what would you do. rebuild(or JDM) stock motor,do a 7mgte conversion, do a 1jz twin turbo conversion, or do a 2jz conversion?
i can easily get a 7mge JDM motor. i also know someone that has a lexus with a 2jz engine but has a blown auto tranny i could get for next to nothing.but if i went that route how hard is it to do a 7m to a 2jz conversion? so hit me with your input. links would rock to on write ups on conversions from 7mge to 7mgte and 7mge to 2jz(or 1jz). thanks |

i think the question should be : how much money does this conversions cost
and how much money do u have well here's my two cents cuz ur going exactly where i was abotu a month ago you can rebuild the engine with no problem +side : you got a brand new engine, healthy and fesh -side : unless u get is torqued and machined while ur rebuilding it ur gonna go there again and take everything apart which means time and money you can also, get a jdm 7mgte +side : the engine is very available, and u get aftermarket support too -side : its so hard getting them to pass emission the 1jz conversion +side : you get a twin turboed engine, good powerplant -side : limited aftermarket support, and ur stuff is most likely going to have to be customized which mean, u guessed it money and time the 2jz conversion +side : yes it is the holy grail of toyota engines, any toyota car/truck that has that engine with proper tuning will reign supreme -side : the things costs so much, so hard finding a usdm 2jz, unless ur getting one from an aristo, it is not the same one from a supra and if u get a jdm 2jz engine, ur going to run into the emissions problem too but i really do think that ur best bet will be to find a usdm 7mgte engine and work ur way up from there if ur gonna get work done to an engine why not the 7mgte, it is also a very powerful powerplant despite of the headgasket problem

yup, and even if u wanted twins,
i've heard of customized downpipes to accomodate twin turbos so i believe its a win-win situation for u
