Default question about targa tops

is it possible to put a targa top on a 1986.5 supra na that did not come with one? if so what steps have to be done to do it.

Anything is possible, Targa cars come with extra bracing that you don't see. without these braces your car will flex tons (more then normal targa cars already do). Your best bet is to sell your car and buy a targa car. Or get a targa supra that is not running and swap over your interior/engine. I take my top off once a year... I'd rather have a hardtop.

I take my targa off whenever it's sunny! Which.. in WA state... right now isn't happening. If I were running the HP kwnate was, I'd probably leave that sucker bolted on 24/7 for fear of tweaking something and not being able to get it back on!

As for modding a hardtop to a targa, I'd say don't do it. Most likely you'd always have problems with it. Frame twist, unseen rust from cutting the top, leaking targa from a bad fit, etc... etc... etc...

Yeah...what they said. You shouldn't even try as the stiffer inner 'role bar' on the factory targa's keep the body flex down plus I don't think anybody could do the targa correct and you would have tons of trouble and leaks and noise and and and and and...

I also almost never take my top off and I live in So. Cal. I have had other convertables too, and even sun roofs, (all on other cars) and even though they seem like a neat thing, at first, I usually end up not liking it due to wind noise, hassle, or other reasons.

Get a motorcycle for those days you want the wind in your face. Keep the Supra intact.

good point, but i like to live after an accident

i like the t-top (cuz im getting a car that has one)
but i also have a hardtop sitting my garage waiting to be revived again
most likely the t-top will be my cruise car, and the other straight for racing
i mean its really jus going to be a week-end car

I got mine chopped nearly three years ago and no problems! I can notice the difference in ridgidity when the roof is off, but it isn't bad. No doubt , if you were racing round a track, you'd feel a fair difference but for normal driving(with a bit of occasional fun), it's fine.

I paid about $800AUD for the roof(New roof from the door level, up). About $1400AUD for the job. The hardest part is letting someone chop up your Supra! Well worth it as far as i'm concerned.
