Engine swap
 
i have a 1986.5 toyota supra non turbo and i was wondering if the 7mgte turbo engine could be swap into mine without changing the 5spd tranny computer ect.

Question Answer: You do need to change the ECU bro or have yours rewritten.

apparently the turbo engine will run with the N|A computer. my supra is a 87 turbo but at some point in time the pcm was replaced with a NA pcm. I noticed this when I was pulling the engine out.
as for horse power loss...most likely... as I have no one in this area with a turbo supra with which i can compare it to...

The ECU's and Tranny's are both different. I know for sure the ECU has a diff setup for each turbo and N/A. As for the tranny, the Tranny that came with the turbo models was made stronger.

but could i possible switch the engines and use the tranny that is in my car? its a 5spd so its stronger then the auto's and the computer i can get erased or what ever and get the car sent to the dino shop for proper tuning of the computer and the turbo i think... let me know if its possible thanks

yeah you can use the same brackets and u can use the same tranny just make sure you dont go over 350hp and get a better clucth upgrade
