More power...
Just go 7mgte or ----->$1JZ$ Or ------->$$2JZ$$. Then again it depends on the power your looking of making. Do you just want a little more to get you around town, or do you want to create a formadable race car/street car? If you want a high performance car an n/a supra is not the way to go unless your willing to throw down alot of $$ to bore it out and get higher lift cams, race pistons, crank, lighter flywheel, clutch, MHG, Shortshifter, Nitrous, and so on. Fast N/A is possible just not very likely without alot of $$. Dont get me wrong throwing in a turbo/7mgte/1jz is also expensive. But you $$:Power is better.

The Honda guys have a bunch more options when it comes to performance. The Supra can be made faster but man does it ever cost!
Breathing is the key here. Headers and a less restrictive exhaust wywtem for starters. I just don't understand why the camshafts are so expensive for these cars, but you really need to upgrade them to get major improvements. I don't know of any engine builder that doesn't go that route. You can adjust the stock cams to change when the power comes in, but I don't think you can feel it. The head is the next area. At least match port the exhaust holes. They are very small compared to the gasket and I still don't understand why they didn't make it the same type port as the intake side, but I guess the smaller holes make better low end torque. You can go larger on the valves, 1 to 2 mm for each. The combustion chambers seem to be pretty good, but there is always room for a little more improvement. The next item is compression. I wish I knew what you could mill off the head to get maximum compression and still have a good head. I know on my old 22R engine that I raced with, it was 180 thou off the head! It looks like a lot of meat on the heads so I would think 60 to 80 should be safe, and I think you can get that adjustment out of the cam belt. You can also deck the block to get a little more, but include the timing cover. These are non interference heads so if the cam belt breaks the valve won't touch anything. If you do mill the heads a lot the valve to piston clearance may become an issue, but I think you have a lot to work with. Timing and fuel can help too. You can really advance the timing, but you have to use better fuel, premium to make the most. The engine is just an air pump, get more in and out and it will go faster, that is why the turbo is so nice. I think the previous reply about 700 hp engine for stock cams is really only for the turbo model because of the air being pushed into the engine. You need help on an N/A engine. Lightening the pig, I mean Supra would help out considerably too. The car weighs almost 2 tons! Shave that down to 3K and you can have a really fast and nimble Supra. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Russ |

I will also give you my opinion on the 3 most cost effective upgrades. Get a header (250 ish), gut your cat out(free), get a 2.5" catback (another 200), Get an ebay air filter and adapter, and make your own air tube to get rid of that air muffler thing(very cheap, 50-100$ depending on what you get). I even used the stock air box. I noticed a bit of difference in power just cutting the front of the airbox off and switching to an off the shelf K&N filter. These motors are already very efficient, so squeezing more power out of them requires money or a compromise of some sort. And your not going to see many gains till you bore and stroke it and/or bump the compression up. The key to N/A power is flow and compression. 7m already has good flow, so you just need a bit more compression (which can also be achieved through a turbo....hehe)
