ya know, when I first bought my '87 Turbo I didn't notice it at all but the more I drove it and got use to the car I could pick up the difference from NORM and SPORT. I still don't notice much in cornering but daily driving straightline, I can such as a rougher roadway and on the freeway at or above the speedlimit. I normally like to go to NORM when on the freeway or when the road is rather rough. I think if Toyota gave us full control over the TEMS (all three positions) we'd feel more in-control and feel it. I understand there was a modual and switch control that was manufactured when we could manually control it, but it's been out of stock for years. I've seen one come up on ebay a year or so ago.

Thumbs up stiff ride

Believe me, you would not enjoy using the 3rd position for everyday driving. It is VERY stiff.
Check here for how to manually put it any of the 3 positions you want.

I was just about to post the same question, if TEMS makes a noticeable difference in driving. I never really noticed much. A little, but not much.

Wink

I drive in the Normal position MOST of the time. Smoother for these rough streets.

When cornering hard (fast, like 40-50mph) from one street to the next, the 3rd (hardest) position will come on. The car does NOT sway or lean. I can feel the difference when it stiffens.

Also when coming to a stop quickly from over 35mph, 3rd position keeps the front end from nose diving.

I use Sport position when its really windy, as it helps keep the car from being pushed around.

And I use it when ever I go "sporting" in the mtns.

3rd posiotion is way too stiff for (me) just driving around. I like to keep my head comfortable, and not bobby up & down, (like those guys in the totally lowered Hondas).

I just leave mine in sport. And I can tell a huge difference when I switch it around.
