car won't start!!!!

hey guys i just got power to everything and when i go to start the engine i hear the relay click but no movement from the starter or anything can some one help me its a 87 manual tranny turbo so right now i'm replacing the starter to see if thats the problem

supraman121 12-09-2006 05:51 AM

does it have a factory alarm? cause i use to get clicks and everything from the relays and they stopped one day and i replaced most of them find out that some would cost me more then i wanted to spend lol. But in the end i got my alarmed disconnected and that fixed my problem what is was doing was sending a relay to the starter staying dont start.

mizuboi 12-09-2006 11:03 AM

it does have the factory alarm and i did lock and unlock the car turning the key twice and it still won't start

supraman121 12-09-2006 11:36 AM

what i use to have to do was disconnect the alarm if you take the panel off under neath your steering wheel.. on the right side slittly behing the steering wheel you should be able to feel a plug i use to unplug that for a day and usually that was long enof to reset the alarm or try disconnecting the battery for a little bit if it starts after a couple hours its your alarm but dont go just by the battery try the other way to

may be somthing really simple liek the battery, had the exact same thing happen to me i woudl try to turn it on and everything woudl work deck and i coudl hear a clicking sound but it woudlnt start up i swore up and down its gota be the starter anywyas i got a jump it started right up and then i went and got a new battery

Soo it could just be your battery

Well is going to be on the left side of the steering wheel... it should be a brown box about the size of a wallet and there is going to be a big white plug in it with alot of wires coming out of that plug you should be able to feel it and or see it.

mizuboi 12-12-2006 05:48 AM

would this be a reason for no signal getting to my starter? because i know the starter works

motosparky 12-13-2006 12:35 AM

I have the infamous starter ghost myself.
I got so fed up I put a hot jumper to the battery then through a heavy gauge push button and to the starter with 12 gauge wire.
Voila... no more issue.
I just have to be careful of valets and car washes if the beast wont start.
I replaced batteries, alarms, by passed the hood and no luck.
Mine is an auto so I was stranded each time until "it" decided to start.
This is the only sure fire technique to get started in a pinch.

hey would you like to explain that in a better detail like where the cables ran from what terminal did you connect the jumper from and what kinda heavy guage push button would that be? like a light switch? haha

pictures would be nice too

also as a side note i bypased my alarm and still nothing seems to want to start it sounds like my injectors work but no turnover and spark so... wfhat

ya i did that for a while and then i just got my alarm disconnected it runs a starter bypass so you cant start or steal the car... if you no the starter works and everything else was working before i would have to say it is a safe bet to just go get your factory alarm dissconnected it workes great now just tell them the alarm is stopping the car from starting and they will uninstall it for like 100 buck or so

im almost 100% sure it is your guys almarms... you can bypass it for now but i would hate to hear that someone stole your cars cause you ran a bypass like that

motosparky 12-13-2006 04:02 PM

I ran 12 gauge wire from the top post of the battery to a push button switch I bought from Pep Boys (heavy gauge style) that I located just below the hood opening mechanism then back out and spliced directly into the wire that plugs into the starter on the bottom side. (it is easily pulled off the starter and I had plenty of room to work)
I just turn the key on and if the Bi### doest start, I just push the button and on my way.
It just did it this morning but not after getting gas or stopping for coffee. As I said, there is no pattern and I am an electrical engineer : )
Good luck !

mizuboi 12-13-2006 08:36 PM

so i'm guessing it was the negative terminal on the battery?

89_supra_ 12-14-2006 03:50 PM

lmao im ghetto when my starter is crapping out i just hit it with a screwdriver for a couple minutes urn the key and im off =]
