oops sorry, I myself have not removed the cams, The P.O. said he had rebuilt it about a year or so ago, but from my veiw points of my previous work on it I'd disagree with him. Anyways I have took the cam covers and checked clearnes of the lobes. I will check to see if the pin holes line up though I am almost certain they are. If the timing marks on the cam gears line up does that automaticaly meen the cams are aligned with the rite hole?

No. Because the cam gear itself can bolt to the cam in 3 different spots. The timing mark on the cam gear is in line with the middle hole of the cam gear. There is a hole to the right and left that if the pin was in, the cam would be about 20 degrees off when the timing marks were lined up. If the cam gears were not removed since you last ran the engine you can rule that out. |

hi
Just a quick question...... did you guys eventually sort the issue out ??
The thing with my car is that i have set the crank shaft pulley to zero mark and made sure that it is on TDC. Cam shafts are aligned to the mark on the back plates. The CPS is aligned as describbed in the manuals BUT the car dosnt start very well. BUT, if i then set the crank to zero and make sure its at TDC and then mark the cams to the markings etc ... AND Then put the CPS in to the head at 180 degrees out... the car starts OK..... and is fine. Can anyone tell me how this would be and why is the CPS out by 180 degrees ?? Thanks |
