i am planing to do a transmission swap when i geto ut of school for christams holidays me and my brother are going to put a 5 spd in my 88 supra my question is can i do the swap without pulling out the engine i no it will be hard ot get the bell housing bolts out if u dont pull the eninge but if i didnt have ot pull the enigne it would be a lot faster and easyer and if anybody has donbe this bwefore i was wonder about how hard is it to do and about how many days it takes to do it thanks

Yes, you can leave the motor in. Unbolt the trans crossmember and lower it on a jack until you can get at the bellhousing bolts up top. Don't forget the starter.
It can be done in a day if you know what you're doing, take your time. Make sure you have all the parts before you start. Also a good time to replace the rear main seal.

ok thanx i still dont really understand tho it is really hard ot reach the top bolts on the bell housing i no to take aout the crossmeber and the drive shaft but how will that help me get the bell housing lose also how hard is it to but i nthe cluch pedal switch the brake peadl and but in the cluctch masdter cyclinder i heard those are some of the hardest thing to do i would apprecitate the help sincei am only 16 and am wokring on my supra project

it there any way to tell if u have a R154 or W58 5 speed tranny
i just ahve a 5 speed an heard these r the only 2 u can do the swap with how do i find out which one i have |

Dont no unless your planning on running like 400 somthing horspower the only thing that really matters is if you have a good clutch for the trans cause the w58 or what ever it is will work with the car but you need to have a nice clutch for it to hold the horsepower from the turbo
