7MGE or 7MGTE?
I am going to buy a motor for my 89 n/t my motor is just to "used" Anyway my question is is it worth it to swap a turbo motor in there? If so how much work? What all needs to be done? Thanks.

going 7mgte is the way to go. the easiest way would be to buy a front clip or find a donor car so you have all the parts. its kindof a plug and play.
|
it should b jus a straight swap since it is the same chassis
but like tony said, try to look for a parts car as a donor, cuz its the little thing that can hold you up |
But what ll needs to be swapped? like ecu? harness???
|
engine
harness ecu Ignitor AFM AFM hose Downpipe Oil Cooler Oil Cooler piping Intercooler Intercooler piping Oil cooler and Intercooler brackets Power Steering Reservoir and lines (its different on the 7M-GTE) Blow off valve Throttle linkage im sure there is some more so thats why its better to buy a donor or clip. |
Umm I think I will just stick with the 7mge then. I dont want to get into all that. If I build a race car it will be muscle anyway. This is just basicly a fun daily driver. I saw on ebay they were selling 7mge motors with like 45,000 miles on them for $650 is this a scam? Has anyone ever bought one??

7mge dont really cost that much 650 sounds like a bargain still
but do the 7mgte swap, its so much worthit, i also moved up from a ge to a gte and the diffrence feels beautiful and they were right, boosting is addictive |
I just dont want to get into that much work.
|
650+shipping costs sounds right. But then you gotta swap the motor along with all of the top end stuff to run legal, egr valve and the like. Suggest doing a head gasket even if you get one of these motors, and most places you buy them from suggest this too.
Try to get a feel of what all expenses you expect to incur, and then find an engine rebuild shop and see what they'd charge. |
Ya I was already planning a head gasket job on it before i installed it.
|
I still say 7mgte is the way to go
Even jus for a fun daily driver What else can b more fun than boosting But I'm just happy that illinois lifted the emissions rules on pre95 cars So if I'm ever gonna get another engine I can jus go jdm wit no problem Too bad u learn this news after I swapped with the usdm one |
Stay with the N/A, rebuild it, look for a turbo. They are out there and much better to work with a car already turboed. NOTHING is ever as easy as it sounds!

Oh belive me I know. The only motor swaps i will ever do will be in hot rods or cars without computers.
