2JZ conversion
I have a 86.5 and I was wondering if anyone has done a 7MGE to 2JZ-GTE conversion? How realistic is this and roughly how much would something like this would cost? Or would it be much smarter to swap it to a 1JZ-GTE?

if you want to put in a 2jz its ganna cost 5-6000. not really sure how to do it though. i know you will need a new trans new ecu , engine mounts and couple of other parts.

Let me ask you a few things
What are your goals for the car? If your jus looking for a daily driver with a little kick to it do the 1jz swap But if you're goin for sum power The 1j is useless since the swap is gonna concern the same things with the 2jz swap And you wil benefit more from the 2jz in the long run Money and power wise I say 2jz will be the better investment for you

Im lookin for something that will handle most of the cars I see around town. But not a full out race car. I appreciate the advice.

Go for the 7mgte swap fits right in and you can use the orginal tranny for a while and for like 6k you can put better injecters and bigger turbos on the engine have it installed and be pushing nice power to the ground but dont do it on the w58? i think that is the tranny in our 86.5's

i hope on getting some money together soon in the future and have done alot of studying on the 2jz swap to an 87 supra i planned on buying a bellhousing and clutch setup for around 1000 that i could bolt up to the w58 and put another w58 in the trunk for when it blows up i know that sounds stupid but i dont' want a 6 speed i want to take the car to the track if that is too exspensive look into setups w/gm transmissions you know those are cheap and easy to find.

What about the 7mgte turbo 5spd tranny? it can hold more power then the w58 and it bolts right up as well

call up Sokos 800 338 7656 or 847 451 1400 saw a guy w/ a 240 swap and it ran 13.5 he said cheaper then ebay and no problems or call up this japanesse guy in the yellow pages forgot the name but it is an american name but he's japanesse he's cool i talked to him for an hour on 2jzgte motors he told me alot they even got the vvt i i'm pretty sure he gives u the ecm and he won't charge u for the ignitor chip he said u can run the auto ecm w/out any mods. i'm going to give u a site to go to get 2jz bellhousing u can run to 5 speed transmissions so u don't have to buy the 6spd getrag for however much. |
