Flatout Gaskets
I was doing some researchin the head gasket department and i found a copper gasket with layers of rubber on it to help seal. I was wondering if anyone has heard of these. ( http://www.flatoutgroup.com/gaskets/gaskets.asp ) i have neither the time nor the money to get both the head and block lapped so thought this might help if I only got the head machined. It says they are supposed to help seal everything??? I was also wondering if the copper could hold up to the heat. It says that it can withstand drag car temps... I am somewhat of a supra n00b so dont bash me.
edit: they are metal with the rubber coating... not copper. I still wonder if it will work without the block being lapped? |
Without knowing much about their compound and not being an engineer ,my unprofessional opinion would be to shy away from them.I could be wrong but that just doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling.
As for decking the block/head ,are you sure you even need to perform this task? Have you checked the surfaces with a straight edge or anything? It's not always the default nessecity.Another thing to keep in mind is any machining you do will affect the timing ,even if just a tiny bit. Just my 2 cents... |
I have not gotten that far in the process yet i'm just at the point where i'm worried i'm pretty sure i'll have to do the Head gasket replacement though. sorry if i'm a little inexperienced i'm kinda a n00b. Also I've changed my mind about what type of gasket i'll get. I'll probably get a MLS possably by "cometic"

I used this MLS ....for my N/A with a slightly milled head. Ishino is what Toyota used OEM, but now improved design for better sealing, and BHG control. I spent hrs on the net researching supra headgaskets. Mine is N/A with only slight mods. I wanted to do the best job I could to never have a BHG again. Almost 2 years later, and daily 'hotrod' driving, no troubles. http://replacement.speedyperformance...l=null&dp=true Don't just throw a gasket on there. Take the head to a good machine shop and have it checked for warpage & cracks, a valve job, touch up milling and valve lash adjustment. Mine was $450. |
