Default change oil pump without pulling engine

I have a 1988 non turbo 5 speed supra and it used to be a buddy of mine and we rebuilt the engine but the owner didnt replace the oil pump during the rebuild. Now that the car is mine I'd like to do this right and replace the oil pump as well. So is this possible or do I need to pull the engine?
