1jz in '87 supra?
Hey Im thinking of buying a 1987 supra off a friend. Its in bad shape and doesn't run. Instead of fixing up the motor i was thinking of swapping in a jdm 1jz twin turbo.
Can this be done? what would i have to do or buy to get it in there? (mounts, etc.) and how much would this cost me (not including the motor)? I'm not the greatest mechanic, how hard would it be to do it? Thanx alot. |

Well you need the engine first
I believe you need new mount for the engine I've been told the turbo tranny from a 7m can work with the 1jz but you need a diffrent bellhousing A 1jz ecu And you need to extend the wiring harness by 3 feet Since the 1jz were designed for rhd vehicles Don't know if you'll need a new drive shaft for it too Basically I'm gonna tell you what I believe Is more cost effective If your willing to get all this to convert a 1jz You might as well go all the way amd get a 2jzgte engine and then get all the goodies for it

doent need a driveshaft if you are getting a bellhousing. pretty much everything else sounds right. however if you arent the best mechanic, dunno if this is the best idea... jmo

I'm going to try to get up to about 350 horses as cheap as possible. (peferrably under $4000) What would be the best way to do this?
I can get a jdm 1jz for about $1600 with distributor, intake manifold, alternator and both turbos. or a Jdm 7mgte for about $1100 with distributor, exhaust manifold, and turbo. what would be the best way to go? and what would be the mods i would need to get? |

i dont have a turbo, but in my understanding, 350 hp is easily attainable with the 7mgte. little or no mods needed to put it in, depending on if the one your buying is turbo or not, and youll be able to find parts for it much more easily than with a 1jz. just make sure the head gasket is in good working order
