ct-26 question
 

i am going to install a "newer" ct-26 on my supra. (when it gets warm enough)

The question i have is do i have to do anything to prep the turbo before i install it or do i just take the old and swap the new?

The bearings need to be lubed before the shafts spins at an astromonical speed.

1) put some oil in the opening of the side of the cartridge (cartridge: the center of the turbo).

And if you want to be obsessive compulsive about it, unplug the wire that goes to the coil packs (or pull out the EFI fuse), then crank the motor over, then start it.
Basically, the turbo spins from exhaust gases, but if there is no ignition, then there is no air pressure coming out of the engine to spin the turbo (or at least, not much anyways).

Bottom line, YES, you need to have the inside of that turbo lubed before running it.
Many warranties are void unless you do this.

That depends on how proficient you are at turning wrenches.

In my case, I've had my turbo off numerous times. The first time took me 6 hours because most of the nuts were so rusted I spent nearly all my time working them back and forth trying not to snap any studs. If your turbo has never been off it will take you some time, unless you just gorilla it and snap everything off. The last time I took it off, I had it off in about an hour.

It really doesn't matter how long it takes you, just take your time the worst thing you can do is rush.
