engine troubles
i have an 88 NA supra. the problem i am having is that the #1 cylinder misfires once the engine is warmed up. the spark plug seems to be fouling, if i pull it out its wet. if i dry it off and put it back in, it will run normal until it gets wet again. i replaced the spark plugs and air filter, and cleaned and inspected the cap rotor vacuum lines and plug wires, and they are not the cause. i also did a diagnostic, no codes are being thrown.
anyone have any ideas what could be up with my engine? bad injector? worn rings? bhg? another problem i am having which may or may not be related and seems to be common with these cars(i searched) is if the engine is hot, i turn the car off and come back to start it up later before its cooled down completely, it idles rough and wants to stall. if i hold the gas pedal down and turn it on, it will run bad for about 10 seconds then slowly stabilize and idle normal. thanks for the help |
Start the engine, then shut it off after a few seconds. Pull the plug and smell it. Is it gas. Sounds like a fuel injector is stuck open (some).
We see this problem at the shop at least every 2 weeks. Sometimes you can remove them and clean them. A seal kit is about $30-36 for all six. I strongly recommend using some strong fuel system cleaner in the gas tank. http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...ead.php?t=4658 http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...ighlight=video |
i have already put a bottle of stp injector cleaner and a full tank of chevron gas in the car.
i did another diagnostic, and this time got a code 42 "vehicle speed sensor." im thinking this has nothing to do with my problem, and everything to do with the fact my speedometer stopped working because i accidently broke the cable replacing the heater core(not a fun job!) what does the ecu need to know the vehicle speed for anyway? the misfire problem began before my speedo cable troubles. |
TEMS. the ecu needs speed ranges to determine what level (soft, medium or stiff) the suspension will change to. if you go over 65 mph, it will bump it up a level, then back below 55, itll bump it back down. probably other stuff too though.
