noob questions on 89 supra
Hello,
I am in the market for a 89 supra, my friend has one and i know nothing about them. I need to know what to look for. This car is silver metalic, with blue leather interior, 120xxx on the car. He suposbly went through the motor, (all new parts, bearings cams turbo ect) looks really well done. It is also a targa top. Im not sure if it came turbo, i am preaty sure it was and he modifided it more. He has the boost controler and it has 19 inch rims with stock rims and tires. The car came from california, (i live in RI) so there is no rust. The front bumper could use some paint but the rest of the car looks decient. The interior is in awsome shape. Over all the car looks well done. He said he was looking to get 5000$. Am i getting ripped off for this price? I can tell hes got a ton of money into it with all the new parts. Also has new brakes and lines. What questions should i ask him. This would be my first turbo car. I am going to school for mechanics so i am good with fixing the car if it breaks, but i know nothing about turbo's and supras for that matter. Also he told me that the car has electronic adjustable suspension. Any advice would be helpfull. I was thinking of offering him around 4500. He is finishing up under the hood, all thats left is the alternator and a few covers here and there. |

Honestly that sounds fair but i still would offer 4500 but expect 5000. supras are known for blowing headgaskets (mkiii anyway). ask him if he did a head job. like arp bolts and a metal headgasket. but the way you described it the price is reasonable especially with those miles. hope it pans out. good luck

im going to call him tonight and ask what motor it has and what turbo it has. Theres not to many supras around where i live on the east coast, thats why i am probably going to jump on this one. just dont want to get screwed, because i need to DRIVE this car every day. |

as long as it is well maintained you shouldn't have a problem and even if you do thats what this forum is here for.

"Theres not to many supras around where i live on the east coast"
I agree with you about that 100%. I have yet to see another turbo supra here in CT besides mine and ddmcse's. Sounds like this "friend" knows what he is doing, $5K sounds reasonable. "the car has electronic adjustable suspension" That would be TEMS- Toyota Electronic Modulated Suspension. It was an option. |
