7MGTE Wiring Harness Issues
About 2 years ago I thought I blew my head so I sold my supra. Well it turns out it was just the head gasket. So last week I bought it back slapped a new head gasket on it and put it back together. Well here is where the problem starts. The guy I sold it to took it apart two years ago when I sold it to him but never put it back together. Everything went together fine but I have a couple of wires and one plug that I can't find out where they go. They are located just forward of the starter and the aft knock sensor. if anyone has any pics or knows of a website with some pics I would love to get them. I know these plugs go to something because my fuel pump doesn't kick on when I turn the ignition to ACC and when I try to start the car the starter doesn't turn. I know the starter is good because it is brand new. I am open to suggestions. Let me know if you have any tips.

Check the scematic and cross reference the wire colors to it and you could also meter them to the ecu plug and cross reference that by the pin number to see where it goes. I had the same problem on my NA and it turns out the two plugs I was concerned about were the horn plug on the firewall for the alarm and the other was for the egr which I don't have.

Thank you, do you have any pics of the area around the starter or know of any websites that have any?

it almost sounds like the theft deterrent system is on.....try to lock and unlock the drivers door with the key and then try to start it....if it doesnt try the passenger door....good luck...

Thanks I'll give that a try...I'll let you know what happened

sorry I don't have any pics cause I don't have the turbo, mine is the NA. If your car is a manual you can see if the clutch switch is good too.
Usually the engine harnesses on most cars have different plugs hanging because of different configurations but do cross reference the schematic to the color codes on the wires so you know exactly what the plugs are for. Just use the schematics in the TSRM for the turbo model. Here is a link that explains the theft detterent system and how to bypass it. http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/april2001/techtips.cfm |
Here ya go, custom made to your order.

Thank you that is very helpful the two bundles of wires I was talking about were the brown and white ones that are bolted to the intake manifold. Now I still have dark grey two prong plug still hanging.

The only thing I can think of for that grey connector is what fOOgOO said, the EGR temperature sensor which only came on 87-92 non-turbo california models.
