Smile AutoTrans Shift Button Poll

I have driven my slightly modded '89 N/A with the shift point button in 'Normal', and in 'Sport'.

I like it best in the 'Sport' mode. It holds each gear about 200-400rpm longer than the 'Normal' position, for the same throttle (foot) position.

Also, if I am cruising along in town at, say, 45mph, and I give it a bit more throttle to get my speed up quickly, it will kick out of torque convertor lockup and zip me up there.

Not so in the 'Normal' mode. You have to give it a bunch more throttle to kick off the lockup TC.

I am wondering how many Automatic car drivers use the 'Sport' position full time.

When I had an auto, I left it in sport full time.

Mine is sport mode at all times.
I drive a canyon every day to work and it reacts faster in sport.
Too bad my baby is sick right now.
I loaned my car to my 21 year old son and boom, BHG !!! : (

On my 86.5 i have norm and pwr which im assuming is the same as sport considering it's exactly what you explained. I use it full time... but sometimes when i get mad at my self for going fast and doing dumb things, i will switch it to norm in an attempt to punish myself or something lol. Im already driving with an SR22 so i gotta be good. But there is a major pwr dif between the two.. i guess if im low on gas or something i might put it on norm in an attempt to keep RPM's down.

Wink

dannydavi...that made me laugh.

I ALWAYS use the trip OD and fill up my tank (no dollar or two at a time for me), and keep an eye on my MPG.

I've tried it both ways, and it seems that in the normal (boring) position, I will get 1 more mile per gallon.

So...I'd rather 'feel' the most power I can, so I leave it in the power/sport mode.

I have been in the mojave and through death valley. You can't put a dollar or two at a time because 2 bucks probably won't buy you a gallon. Some of the most expensive gas I ever purchased was on your side of kingman AZ.
