type of gas to use
 

i was reading to owners manual...and, i dont remember the exact words, but it went something like: unleaded fuel only, unleaded 87 can be used, however for added performance you may use unleaded 91. can i mix both of those fuels? i believe 87 is in my tank. well, i put in 87 last time, so its in there now. will 91 octane have any negative effects on my spark plugs or anything else? i know itll give me better performance but im just not sure if itll mess up anything, or if its worth it. thanks!

This is an age old topic. I'm not going to get into it but to answer your question, no it will not hurt anything mixing 87 and 91. If you want to know I use 93 everytime I fill up, even when gas is above $3 a gallon.

Nope, 93 will not hurt anything, 87 on the other hand could, and I emphasize "could".

really? didnt think 87 would hurt my car lmao. ill drive down to byrne dairy when my car is registered and fill it up with 93 lol. big performance difference? although ive driven it twice so far, i dont think ill know the difference between the two.

93 octane just reduces the chance of detonation. I just use it as extra insurance. Turbo motors tend to detonate on 87 (if you boost the crap outta it like me). And detonation will ruin any motor in no time.

ah. im tempted to run down to byrne dairy with an empty gas container and buy some. detonation + stock HG = very worried driver. thats the first thing ima fix lol, i REALLY dont wanna have the head\block warped...i dont have 3 grand.

First of all your car is not registered right? Why would you worry about putting 93 octane in it? Not rational :)

As far as 3 grand for the HG, check out my HG thread, I have a break down of every part needed to replace the head gasket and it comes nowhere close to even $1,000. And thats with $200 in head work done by a shop.

If the head gasket is gonna go, its gonna go. Running 87 octane won't make it go.

labor blows. 65+ bucks per hour, and this place i called that i mostly trust said hed take like 15 damn hours on it. i know some people there though, but still, if it can go wrong it will go wrong. so im expecting a bad outcome...so ill be happy if it isnt, or indifferent if i was right.

cant do it myself. no place to do it, dad would flip out and wouldnt help me with it, and i guess id rather have a mechanic who knows what hes doing do it right.

oh, and yeah. about the gas thing...i worry like that :-P when i have something thats important to me i tend to try to take the best care of it as i can. knowing me, next time i drive it ill forget to use 93 or something.

I did all that work in my back yard. It's really not hard, I mean that. People these days are so intimidated by mechanical work on a vehicle. I'm no mechanic. I never went to school for this. I'm self-taught. I just bought the tools that I needed and rolled up my sleeves. I never replaced a head gasket before. All you need is a place to put the parts and common sense. The TSRM doesn't hurt either lol. F*ck labor charges, there is nothing any mechanic can do that you can't. Trust me, I'm living proof. Thats why I made that thread, to show that ANYBODY can replace their head gasket. All you need are the right tools, the TSRM and will power. Sorry for ranting, im a lil drunk right now lol.

perfectly fine ;) actually, i do know a kid named....tom buttner, thats right. he built his car ground up, got the frame for free, swapped in a v6 or v8 engine and tranny, everything electrical, he did it all himself. no idea how he did it, but hes a damn smart kid. ill give him a call and ask if he could help.

i wonder how my dad will react to me telling him im going to replace my own headgasket haha. hes gonna be pissed. hes gonna say why...im gonna tell him about its low torque rate...hes gonna shoot me with an M16 for buying the car in the first place. gah, ill go read your topic again...youve got a huge fricken list of parts on there too, good lord. ill look over the repair manual a few times just to get an idea of what to do.

The only reason it's taking me so long is because of the weather. Can't work on it in 5 degree weather.

See, you know what I mean about that kid you know that did all that crap and you don't know how. We call that FM, when people ask how'd you do that we just reply FM. F-in Magic. You can do anything, it just depends how hard you want it. Damn I sound like a teacher at high school....

HAHA, FM. im gonna remember that. its really cold here too...maybe spring break will be better for me, nice n warm and tons of time to do it.
