upgrading intake and exhaust!
i just recentlly picked up a new 7mgte. want to upgrade some stuff before i put it in. i want to get a cold air intake and i want the intake to lead to were the battery is. im not sure of any companies that offer this type of a part so if anyone knows were i can get one let me know. i also want to upgrade the exhaust manifold, turbo (want a little bigger turbo and i think its called a ball bearing turbo), and a new o2/ downpipe and a 4" exhaust with no cat. so if someone can tell me were to find these parts and if there good or not let me know. thanks, loc

wow thats quite a list. id recomment startin out getting all the supporting mods for the big turbo: intake filter, lex maf, exhaust(3" is what im gonna get), injectors, walbro fuel pump, spark plugs, and wires. im sure with those there you'd get a good amount of power.
|
How much money do you have to work with? You need to find someone to do the front facing intake. You won't find any performance shops that carry them.
And do what j3pz said. A 4" exhaust is a little overkill. The biggest I'd go is maybe 3. If you get a dual ball bearing turbo, you'll need to reduce the oil feed line and increase the oil return line on the turbo. Too much oil will kill that kind of turbo. Just look into an upgraded CT26 for right now. Maybe a 57 trim. There's no need to upgrade the exhaust manifold unless it's cracked or something. They can hold quite a bit of power. |
Is the ct-26 journal or ball bearing?do you know how or know anybody who knows how to do the oil lines for the ball bearing turbob if the ct26 isnt. Im not looking for that much of a bigger turbo so if you guys know were i can get a good one let me know. thanks
|
i dont believe they are bb so my guess is journal??? i dunno, but a 57 trim ct26 is a decent upgrade. sure its not the biggest or baddest turbo, but its nothing to shack a stick at either. ill prolly go with a 57 when im ready to upgrade.
|
It's a journal and a 57 trim ct26 is a pretty badass turbo. It'll get you up past 400HP with enough boost and fuel. It'll probably be your best bet. It's fairly cheap and its a bolt on turbo because it uses the stock housing. It's $625 from MDCMotorsports.com. Driftmotion.com also offers this rebuild.

alright thanks

A Turbo rebuild for the price of a carbon fiber hood. Not to knock any one...,
But this is why I stay away from turbo's. But you may also try horsepowerfreaks.com |
Hmm whats going to make you faster a carbon fiber hood or an upgraded turbo?
We might have to do some testing on that one. And you sure will stay away from turbo's alright, like far behind one..... |
About the aftermarket intake manifold it is quite expensive to get that if you can find it, and if you do it about 600 bucks not unless you make one for yourself
Pretty expensive and don't waste your time with the ct26 turbo they tend to break with higher boost levels Get urself something with at least a 60 trim Or go 70 trim for bigger power If you want a ball bearing turbo I suggest looking at the garett gt35r turbo that's should be enuff for your needs for now It is a bit pricey but it'll be worthit You need to get an aftermarket exhaust manifold too, top mount with a t3/t4 flange You need a wastegate too at least 40mm And doing all your pipiing you might wanna start looking for aftermarket bov to compliment your intake piping I suggest getting a front mount intercooler too, And yes the 4 inch is a little overkill But it makes me wonder how were you planning to route that exhaust since there's barely any space underneath the car |
I know to some of you turbo's are worth it. I wouldn't mind having one on a car that I would never work on. Like a porsche maybe. I just simply like not having the extra headache. My na is plenty quick for what it is when it runs and it will be again soon.
I'm not knocking you guys for doing the turbo thing. To each there own. |

I said it because I don't do turbos. I'm not heated. I just like old school things I like an engine that is 300hp because it's built that way. Without turbo's.
I don't spray either. Now if I'm playing gran turismo or something..., I like turbo's. I like low end torque that I can feel all the way through every gear. In my experience with turbos. The cars are dead on their faces till 2.5 or 3k rpms. I have never driven a turbo'd supra. Give me an engine that gets the same power as the turbo, without it. That's my focal point. I know I am in the wrong market for that thought process, lol. But that's how I think. Let me get my na running and then I'll race what's in my class and be happy. I do more street than track. Straight line is fun, don't get me wrong. For me the zen of it is in really driving my auto. Again I'm not saying I wouldn't have a turbo'd car. It's going to be something new enough that I won't have to work on it unless I want to. |
some vehicals that are turbo'd suck and should have never had a turbo, but in the case of a supra, the second that turbo kicks on its a hold your shit moment, expecially when you upgrade it, a turbo is like nitrous besides the point its not going to blow your motor after 5 uses :) its just helping the motor with more air intake. the more air the more power, but in order for you to have the air you need fuel to support it.
let me put it this way, i have a 1979 camaro with a 350 w/450hp and it was fun just like the supra its big long and heavy, it doesnt stick in the rain very well neither. but when i went and i test drove my turbo'd supra i had the biggest smile ever and the supra was completely stock. everything about the car was amazing. i love cars because the amount of power they have, i like to work on making cars faster so i can be faster than that damn little honda that thinks he is fast with his 4 inch muffler and a cold air intake system and a little engine cover that says v-tech when most of the time they never are. now those little bastards are putting turbos on there cars and trying to stay up and doing a pretty good job. thats when we upgrade our turbos because our motors where built for a turbo and we can push more boost than they can. meaning no chance. you NA i never test drove one but i have raced one before and he had put 6k just in rebuilding and performance wise he got new headers and exhaust and intake, and he stayed up till i got to 2nd gear then i just wasted him out of the hole. so that is why the turbos are great. if you want to see a good diffrence between a NA and tubo, test drive the VW beetles go and test the NA versus the Turbo you will feel the diffrence |

So tone loc, I hope I've help you with ur question, and hopefully ur build wil go smoothly
And redmaro, I have that pic that u requested, idk if u saw it already And turbos rule, as for getting a car and never working on it For me that's like having a girlfriend, that I pay for everything already, and pay sumbody else some more to fondle her Lots of reason why pple get the turbo supra Ie; "I wanted the new supra, but all I can afford is the mk3" "I'm an old school guy" etc etc Plus even if the mk3 is a headache That comes with any car, if a brand new car breaks down , then what do you expect with a 20yr old car, And if you don't want the problem when upgrading the turbo, then keep it stock to all factory specs and you won't have a lot of headaches |
yup evey car will break down eventually. but if you want speed and power but only have 4-5k$ then you might want to look into a turbo supra. alot better than paying 4-5k$ on a stock honda that will get its ass kicked. but i guess if you want better gas mileage then get a hyundai low in cost good with gas and acually have a little power to them. plus you get that really cool warrenty.

Dudes....,
I'm not knocking turbos. Not at all. I realize there is a huge difference between my na and your turbos. The na is a totally different animal, I agree. I didn't intend to start a debate. But what the hell. I like to smoke Hondas. Because it seems all those guys think they are hot for some odd reason. So again I agree. I'm just complacent with the na. And ya everything breaks down sooner or later. It's just an honest preferrance just as yours is for turbos. Surely we can all agree that we dig the smell of gasoline and oil. Smells like Freedom to me turbo'd or not. |
Personally I like the smell of burning coolant....mmmm my favorite smell in the world.
|
Yeah me too, I think I've aquired a taste for the smell of coolant, bleeding my damn car too much lol
|
Or when the cock pit fills with smoke from the burn out.
A true cheech and chong moment. My a$$ end breaks loose easy enough. I need another set of rims for the rear so I can put some hoosiers on them and roll them weekends. |
Well gravel in dirt in my case, I went offroading with my supra,
I decided to slide on a dirtroad, with the top off, Worst idea ever, I was cleaning the car for a whole day to get all the dust out |
yeah i recently did that in a parking lot with my windows down and i got mouth full of debris
|
Supramacist you need an LSD diff. God damn one leggers.......:)
|
I have limited slip. I leave 2 black marks dude. Smoke rolls from both tires, I assure you. Or it used to, lol. It will again.
|
I didn't know N/A's came with an LSD.
I guess ya learn sumtin new everyday! |
Yep and you learned it from me I'm going to mark my calender. LOL
|
Yep, my old na had lsd, abs, tems and the headlight washers
I see a lot of na with no options at all And an na with no lsd is a really helpless fish when it comes to racing |
