my wont start thread
as the title says. i tried to start my jdm motor tonight. i finally got everything together and tried to get it fired up. it will crank, it sounds like it wants to start, just wont. i lightly sprayed some carb cleaner in the 3000pipe, nothing. i can smell gas so im almost sure its getting fuel. looking at the boost gauge, its constantly at 0, no vacuum, so maybe something clogging the air? ill check that tomorrow. ill also check the timing. i searched for similar threads without any luck. any suggestions, questions, or referrals would be great. thanks guys, jesse

Is it getting spark? How's the battery? I know that my old battery would crank the car but wouldn't turn it over. Try a new battery or try jumping it.

If the engine turns over (goes rrrr...rrrr...rrrr) then the battery is not the problem.
Recheck the timing belt setup, and then distributor setup. Check all the wirimg and vacuum setup. |
I would be very concerned about the vacuum gauge not reading anything but 0 during cranking. Don't know what to tell you but its definately not a good sign, but hey what do I know.
First thing I would do is a compression test to make sure this JDM engine is in proper running condition. You shouldn't just take it for granted that the compression is good in this unknown JDM motor. |
Slays me how many people try to plug and play with JDM and get burnt.

i tried to turn it yesterday, i am getting vacuum. im going to check the timing whenever i can get a timing light, and ill try to do a compression check
