Torque Wrenches
Alright Gents.
I need to buy a good full service all around torque wrench. I figured I wanted something from 35 to 150. I was thinking sears and craftsman, because of the lifetime warranty thing. What wrenches beside snap on do some of you cats use in your shops??? |

I have 3.
A craftsman 3/8" drive in/lbs. Rubber handle. Range: 0-250 in/lbs. Bought it brand new. A snap-on flex head digital 3/8" drive ft/lbs, in/lbs, Nm. Rubber handle. Range: 0-100 ft/lbs. Which I used on my head bolts. Bought it brand new. A no-name autozone special 1/2" drive ft/lbs. Metal handle. Range 0-150 ft/lbs which I used on my crank bolt. Bought it brand new. Whatever brand you get, just make sure its brand new because it will be freshly calibrated. I only recommended the digital snap-on because it is one of my favorite tools. I pretty much sleep with it under my pillow. You will absolutely love it if you can afford it. But if you don't plan on using it ever again then just get a cheapo one. I use torque wrenches alot because I work on other peoples cars in my spare time so in my case, it was a good investment. Last edited by IHateHacks; 04-16-2007 at 02:09 AM. |

I'm looking at it as an investment because this will not be my last project car.
Once this bad boy gets up and running and I'm secure in it's efforts I'll have something new in the garage. I have my eye on what I believe to be an 89 or 90 model mkIII with the 7mgte. It's been parked in the same place for two years. I'm thinking on trying to snag it. After learning all of this shite it seems a waiste to go buy a new Z. LOL, I also have my eye on a 90 model crx. I hate to admit it. But the price is right if the guy doesn't fix it for himself. I'm talking well under 500 bucks. It too suffers from BHG. |

Anyways what did you end up going with? Heard that craftsman only have a 90 day warranty, free calibrations to that point afterwards 50$. Will replace only if it breaks basically not if mechanism stops functioning as it should. Also read that they where poorly constructed and easily broken. not sure Dont plan on droping the thing... Would like to spend under 150 and get something that is nice and will last. If that is not possible and will need recalibration each time i use it costing 50$ or more each time perhaps just a cheapo 30 dollar one each time i torque some would be a better route? What did you end up going with?

I know its wrong but if these things dont hold calibration. or last thru the ages unless you drop a pretty penny is there anything wrong with picking up a craftsman one using it, then returning afterwards and picking up a new one everytime you do a job
