Maintenance brake and clutch master cylinder fluid
Probably one of the most overlooked items when caring for a 20 year old vehicle are the brake and clutch master cylinder fluids. I'm guilty of this as well.
I was planning on flushing my master cylinders for a while now and I finally did it today and am I glad I did. A little history, I flushed the brake master cylinder over a year ago but I never flushed the clutch master cylinder and I never cleaned the inside of the brake master cylinder or even looked in it. I bought the car with a new clutch master cylinder already installed, but with unknown mileage on it. What I found at the bottom of the brake master cylinder today was horrendous. Black sludge worse than I've ever seen come out of an engine oil pan was lurking at the bottom of the brake master cylinder. I should have taken pictures, but I didn't. I'm talking black as night SLUDGE, thick sludge. The clutch master cylinder had the black sludge too but not nearly as bad since its not 20 years old like my brake master cylinder. I'm going to do it again in a few days after the new fluid mixes with the rest of the old fluid. Then I will do it probably once every 6 months. I used a squirt nozzle from a windex bottle to evacuate the fluid out of the master cylinders. It worked great since brake fluid is not as viscous as engine oil. I tried using it in my plug wells back when I first bought the car 2 years ago and it doesn't work with thicker fluids such as engine oil. I HIGHLY advise anyone that cares about their supra to flush out their master cylinders. |

Sounds swell man.
Hook us up with some picks and write up. I'll look it up in the tsrm and check mine after I get it running. But some of the guys here would use a write up such as this. If they would read the sticky's, lol. I'm going to lowes tonight to buy that giant screw driver, lol. I think I have a friend coming over tonight that can definitley help me if he even shows up. |
