Actually, whenever you take apart anything in the suspension you should have the alignment checked.
It does not take much (like 1/8-1/4") to cause your tires to start wearing out prematurely. When I replaced my lower ball joints, it seemed like there was not gonna be any difference in it, but the steering wheel was off center about 2". I'll be changing my lower control arm bushings soon, so I'll wait to align it after that. Its best to replace at one time, all the suspension parts that need it, so you only have to align once.
