Clean out your intercooler!!
Yeah, so I noticed I had a little pool of oil in my intercooler outlet when I was doing my head gasket so I decided to take the intercooler out and clean it.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f2...e/DSC00616.jpg Thats how much oil came out of the intercooler. Well, that's mixed with about 2 cans of brake cleaner and it took a good couple of hours to get it all out. And I kinda missed the cup most of the time. That is 20 years of oil getting into the intercooler. I suggest cleaning yours out if you have a turbo. And heres a picture of what a good cat looks like. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f2...e/DSC00617.jpg Thats the inlet, the part that bolts to the downpipe. |
Maaaan, I got that mutch sludge out of my air intake system.. I use castrol superclean if seals or gaskets aren't involved. I'm kidding but it was bad.
Needless to say I had some blow bye going on. |
thats a lot of crap in there i think i might have to check mine to be on the safe side.

Yep, if you have a stock intercooler and never took it off before, do it. It takes like 15 minutes to unbolt it. But it takes awhile to get all the sludge out of the intercooler.
I would have just bought a new one but I really don't have an extra $800 to blow. Besides, mine is good as new now and only cost me $5 for brake cleaner. |
