I got the car about 4 months ago, It had been sitting for 11 years. I got it running and a engine rod bearing knocking so I pulled the motor and replaced all of them, but I didnt rebuild b/c of money and time, but I did clean the throtle body out and the intake. So I put the motor back in and it ran fine for about 1 month then out of nowhere it will not idle at all and in order for you to start it you have to give it gas all the time or it will die and between 2 to 4000 RPM it misses. It has a used gas tank that I put in and it seemed clean and I washed it out with gas and put a new fuel pump in it and a used fuel pump relay. Can anyone tell me what they think it is.
Thanks |

Gee..., it could be any number of things.
You should have cleaned the air intake out before starting and changed the oil and gave it a tune up and new air filter. You should have pulled the cam covers and checked the head bolts. It will need all kinds of new parts after and if you get it running. Any auto can not just sit around for a decade without someone knowing they are going to have to rebuild it before driving it. If for no other reason than when you get it running..., it'll probably start leaking oil in many places. I would not spend another dime on it as it sits. You have plenty of work to do before you even call a parts store. If it's a manual tranny, you may get lucky and the transmission hold up for a while. If it's automatic..... Well, Good Luck for sure. Get a TSRM and a new metric socket set. Especially a 14mm and a 12mm. Join 3 more forums, and learn anything and everything you can. EDIT: Have you checked for codes??? If not..., DO. |

It sounds like maybe the throttle position sensor could be bad or not adjusted properly.

You have 2 options you can, A. throw parts at the car (not the smartest way to repair a vehicle) or B. you can run some simple diagnostic tests. I'd start with reading the codes that are stored in the ECU, if any.
I would run a compression test also. Makes sure the engine is fully warmed up, pull the 15A EFI fuse while conducting the test and hold the throttle wide open during cranking. |

I did a diagnostic check on the car and it told me the TPS was messed up. I check it and it wasnt working right. I took it of and went to the parts store and the replacement that the computer says isnt the right one. I have a M125 /89452-28030 /198500-0300 TPS. Can anyone give me a cross reference to a Denso so I can get my car back on the road. Thanks

I put a new one on and the car still runs bad but the computer keeps saying the TPS is still bad I dont know really what to do and my friend says its a head gasket but I dont think thats it but he is a master toyota tech. but he hasn't listened to it in person. I think im going to take the spark plugs out and see if there fouled. I have allready pressure tested the coolant system to see if im losing coolant to the piston, or oil and im not. so i think im going to take it to the shop to put it on the diagnosic machine. The test I ran was though the check engine light. (dont know how effective that is)
