if your are talking about the 3000 pipe to the accordian hose where the bypass valve should have been its not there anymore, the 3000 pipe is now a hard pipe with no holes or brackets, and the part where it would have been hooked up on the accordian hose is blocked off with a lug nut. i have never had a problem with this before.

A lug nut? What are you kidding me? They sell caps for those fittings at NAPA and they are about .50 cents each.

Ignition timing should be 10 degrees BTDC with the terminals shorted.

What do you mean "the left cam is almost on mark, the right cam is off from what looks like 2 degrees"?

Do you have adjustable cam gears? Or are you referring to the stock cam gears and how their matchmarks line up with the notches in the inner timing plate when the crank pulley is lined up with the 0 degree mark?

thats what it sounds like. When was the last time your timing belt was changed? How many miles are on the car?

the engine has 160k miles on it, the cam markings on the block that are spose to line up to the markings on the cams dont match up, there cam on the passenger side is lined up with the mark, while the cam on the drivers side is off what looks like 2 degrees, off by a noticable amount, like this much ---
i dont know why, but this would make the valves open at incorrect times. the cam gears are the stock ones not adjustable. and the lug nut thing works fine, its not leaking at all so i dont care, i know they sell the caps at napa i used a bunch of them on my camaro.

Thats alot of miles bud. You didnt indicate anywhere that theres a new engine in the car or that the timing belt was replaced at any point in history. id say your timing belt is tired. Get yourself a new one, re-time the car lining up cam gear notches with timing notches on the car, set the crank at 0-deg. then id say time it with a timing light and see if the problem persists. It most likely wont. Even though those notches are only off by a little bit, thats alot as far as how much a valve is open.

no that motor in the car isnt new, but i have a rebuilt one im working on now :). yea i was thinking how the cams would come un alighend like that the timeing belt was the only thing i could think of. streching or somthin. but thanks guys, i have to do emissions today, going to fail then ill have to spend some money, then ill bring it in to get it fixed with the company who knows everything thats done to this car, and fix it for me bring it back, and ill probably still fail. if thats the case then either they are givein me the waiver form so i never have to do emissions again or they just let me get my shit and have to do it again next year. ill give you guys my readings of what 5-8mpg is like for emissions :)

well i dont know how i did it, but for some reason my car passed.
so i guess if your exhaust is rich enough to burn your eyes you'll still pass.
