fuel problems
I have an 87 7mgte. The good news is that the car is now ruinning. I had to replace the ecu, cps, fuel filter, plugs and the number 1 wire. I re-set the tps using the procedure in the TSM. The car still has a skip and I 'm getting about 4-6 miles to the gallon. After driving, the car wont restart using the starter until it cools down. Now if I put starter fuild it the intake or I roll start it will crank hot.
The car set up for about two years. Also, when I changed the fuel filter, well let's say I've never seen on stopped up that bad. I was thinking the next step was to either clean or replace the injectors, but I wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas I might try. Has anyone run into this problem before? |

Yes. Many times. On customer's cars. When a car sits too long, the fuel injectors go bad due to the gas evaporating and leaving gums and varnish to plug them up. We've tried, with limited success, to clean them with strong fuel additives, BG 44k. It only works on injectors that are slightly plugged, or slightly sticking open. We end up just replacing the injectors, ALL of them at once, to solve the problem. As a shop, we only use new injectors. Never Pythons. |

If I need to replace the injectors, what all is involved in upgrading to the 550cc? I assume I'll have to replace the mass AFS, but is there anything else that will need to be done? Will the 550cc injectors work with the stock ecu?

Most people just swap the AFM's housing with one of the Lexus AFM housings. This lets more air into the system while keeping the stock sensor. Otherwise you'll need a piggyback fuel controller.
