My exhuast noise changes.....why???
On somedays my car will be quiet meaning that the idle is quiet its even quiet when i give it gas (still sounds really good but just not stuipd loud) i took out the resenator so i know the sound will change but that was done with my exhuast was done. But somedays the exhaust will sound so damn loud. sometimes it will sound really deep and loud at idle and when i give it gas it can cause u to go deaf
Does anybody elses supra do it too.

Most changes are simply perceptual. In some cases it's a matter of the environment. My car sounds loud as hell in the city or on the highway as there are more objects to reflect the sound than when I'm out driving in the middle of nowhere. Humidity and temperature can also change effect how the air is moving through the engine and as such change the sound of the exhaust. More often than not I think the difference is perceptual... but yeah, I notice it too. Today in fact.

I know what you mean. My exhaust is still too loud for me. My friends think it sounds great, but I'd rather have it whisper quiet. I still need to add a resonator though, hopefully that'll tone things down enough to suit my tastes.

Well mine is quieter than I would have thought. I have a HKS supper dragger and when I had it on my 7M n/a it was really deep and not too loud but sounded really good. Now that I got the 1JZ in my car it quieter. Actually at all power ranges quieter and I have a test pipe so it is pretty much straight back cept the HKS small single chamber and the big can at the back. I wonder if I up the boost if it will get louder prolly not knowing my luck.

If you have the cat on, you may have broken/problem inside it. If you muffler is a reg. or chambered type, you may have something broken inside that moves around and blocks/openup the flow.

If you like nice and quiet, but functional, I have the Tanabe Super Meddalion. It's great. All I hear is the turbo and the wastegate, and the slight 7M-GTE hum.

Most exhausts sound like crap on an N/A. I've got 2.5" piping all the way back to the muffler. There's no raspyness or fluttering to the sound which N/A's usually have. My friends think it sounds "perfect" but I really don't see the need to hear my car's exhaust.I'm thinking of adding a 4" AeroTurbo resonator. With that and the Borla it should be quiet enough for my tastes. I've just got to sell the second Borla I've got before I go ordering more parts.
mrnickleye, I see where you're coming from. That's not the situation in my case (checked the cat thoroughly when I redid the exhaust), but it is something people should keep in mind. |

If you still have a cat on your car, news flash: that shit ain't loud. You want to hear deafening take the cat off and go 3" from the turbo back and listen for the wastegate to open, oh wait, you don't have a turbo....
88Tsupra my car is stupid loud at idle when I start it in the morning when its running its richest. When its fully warmed up it quiets down at idle. But as soon as I give it any throttle it just gets retarded "pull me over" loud. And when I make a WOT run you will lose your hearing if you are walking and I pass by you, its BAD. I have a full turbo back 3.25" exhaust with no cats. What it comes down to is how much fuel you are burning. When your car is "louder" its most likely running rich. |
