Anyone put a 1JZ-GE in a Mk III
As an addendum to my thread about 7M-GE efficiency, I'm curious what kind of results would happen if the NA 1JZ engine were installed in a Mk III. At 2.5L it is smaller than the 7M but appears to produce the same hp/torque numbers. As a smaller engine it should be lighter so overall efficiency should improve a little with no apparent loss of power. Has anyone tried this?

As far as I have read the only other engine offered in the mark 3 in Japan when the 1JZ came out was the 7m the 1GGTE and the 1JZGTE. But as for if anyone has put one in I have just recently finished my 1JZGTE upgrade and hes right it is stinking fast. Quite a difference from the 7MGE I started with.

What is your gas mileage like? I commute 110 miles round trip every day and get about 23 in my automatic 7M-GE. I dropped from 31 when I switched from my Camry to the Supra. I'd prefer not to take too much of a hit going to the 1JZ-GTE. I will be switching to standard if I do an engine swap so that should help me a little.

Depends on how heavy your foot is. I bet you can watch the gas gauge go down when you're into it deep.

What do the letters stand for. I know that 7mge means NA and 7mgte means it has a turbo, but does anyone know what actually they stand for.

You would be supprised at how decent the gas mileage is really I drove from my house to Dallas bout a 2 hour trip in it and out of it jacking around a bunch the whole way there and maybe burned up close to a quarter tank. My brothers focus does worse than that and I also ate a colbalt SS and messed with a older corvette. But as for HP when I dynoed it with the stuff I have on it I was pushing 260 at the wheels I have read that normally you get like 245 but I am also getting ready to put on my Greddy Profec B spec 2 and my turbo timer then I am gonna put on my F-con v pro and then I am gonna start with the turbo mods but that is here in a few months. My car looks like a beater cause the body needs work so most people dont see what is coming when I smoke them. Also as soon as I went to Jotech this guy offered to buy it as it sat for like 9 grand but I am gonna keep it, too much fun.

I didn't even know there is an Athens, TX and I lived in SA for 28 years.
Sounds like it isn't too wasteful on gas. I may look at putting a 1JZ-GTE in it eventually.

Just do some research on the place you buy it from because you might get screwed. But there are some places out there to get a whole clip cheap. I got mine for 1900 with 700 shipping from Japan. which really isnt bad because I have seen them go for like 2600 then shipping on top. I just love the switch from front to back turbo feels like a extra kick in the butt.

You can be sure that when the time comes to buy an engine/transmission I will be soliciting advice here on who is and isn't reputable. I won't be ready for a while so no replies are needed on this subject yet. Be certain though that the question will be asked.
