i currently have a 89 toyota supra mk3. with a fairly new 7mgte motor i had ordered out of japan. i have been thinking latly of putting a twin turbo 2jz motor in my mk3 instead. has anyone done this before? if so what were the results? will the motor just bolt up or will there be any custimization needed. and which motor is better, and faster?

Man....., if you don't know wich motor is wich you probably have no need to even be thinking about swapping. Your' screen name should be: "Reckless Endangerment".
The 2j series engine will not just plug and play. Unless you go twin turbo the 2jzgte is the hot rod. You may just be better off to re-build your JDM. If you can pull that off you'll have 1 7m build under your belt. I can't even say I have that but it's getting close. |

From what I have gathered here, the 1JZ is a much better fit to the MkIII than the 2JZ. I am looking to go that route eventually.

I will say the 2JZGTE looks all well and good when you think about it but there is alot of moding taking place to get one in. First you have to do a single turbo mod because the rear turbo wont fit against the firewall. You could always sit there and sledge hammer that problem away but then you run into the fact that there is a heater back behind there and it doesnt like things hitting it. You will have to have a downpipe specially made for it. The cross member and mounts dont just line up there a little modding there. Lastly the wireing is all reall different and there will be days of sitting in front of a mark TSRM looking at the wireing wondering where your stuff will mate up. On the other hand the 1JZGTE came in mark 3's in japan and is the little brother of the 2JZ and most of the parts between the 2 interchange. And so far I have not seen it uncommon seeing one pushing well over 1k horsepower. If you have a post 89 and a little patience with extending the harness then the 1JZGTE is the way to go and also it is cheaper.

the 1j series would be a better choice and come closer to fitting correctly.

I got my other name in the military as soon as I bought my first mark 3 everyone started calling me supraman. They thought it was derogatory, I was like telling them thanx. But yes if you want to look into putting a 2JZ in your car it can be done is what I am getting at but it is just up to how much work you are wiling to put in. It has been done and there is people out there that have info on how to do it. But really and truely when I took my car to Jotech to dyno it they thought it was a 2JZ because most of the guys working there had never seen or heard of a 1JZ. They look close cept the valve covers a slightly different and the coil cover is slightly different as well. But other than that they are almost twins.
